honestly so disappointed because i used to love this island in the pines, haven’t been in awhile but the staff is terrible. a thief as well! walk into the restaurant and the lady is on the phone talking bad about a previous customer. doesn’t greet me, i ask for my order she acts like they don’t have the order. when i placed it she said head in and grab it. total is $51.34, i placed 2 twenties, 1 ten & 2 dollar bills, i put a few bucks in the tip jar she goes & grabs the food, grab our food, she grabs the money i am looking at the money!!! she opens the register, we are walking away & she is yelling “aye man aye man” this is $42, maam you know there was $52 there, she tells me to look on the floor or something. terrible it takes a lot for me to write a review like this but no wonder there’s no customers!! lost another one.
I had a craving for a taste of local flavor, so I drove to Islands in the Pines. When I lived in South Florida (pre pandemic) my friends and frequented this place regularly for their delicious brown stew chicken, cabbage, and rice/peas.
Now, you can’t even tell whether they’re open for business when you walk through the front door. Half of the lights are off, the digital menu displays are all shut off, and no one looks happy to be there, not even the customers. Several customers who placed to go orders asked the employee to open their bags to confirm their orders were correct. I heard the customer before me mention the jerk chicken lunch special, so I went with the flow and that’s what I ordered.
The jerk chicken tasted like charred meat. There was almost no flavor. The cabbage was salty, and there was very little gravy on the chicken and rice and peas. The portion size was decent for $7.50, but if you’re looking for flavor, this isn’t it. Sadly the best part of the meal was the rice and peas. I might consider going back for their brown stew chicken, but some of the more recent reviews lead me to believe that I should just take my money elsewhere.

The service is horrible here. The employees always seem to have a bad attitude and there is no hospitality whatsoever. Another thing I don’t like is how they don’t have any menus which makes no sense. When I ordered my food, they mostly put bones and barely any meat. Don’t recommend coming here. I had a horrible experience.
Don't even bother ordering from this restaurant. I placed an order on Ubereats, for curry goat. I kept wondering why Uber kept changing drivers, so I contacted the restaurant. By this time, it had been over an hour when it should have been only 30 minutes. When I called the restaurant, the woman said that the delay was due to the goat not being ready, and it would be 15 more minutes. I asked her why they would even allow me to oder something they didn't have as yet, and she said they had it, bit wasn't ready. Then she said it would be another hour! At this point, I just asked for something else, and she had the nerve to want to charge me the price difference! Horrible customer service, and zero accountability. On top of that, the food was mediocre, and I juust threw it away.

My mum suggested dining at Island in the Pines on Saturday because she loves their food so I went with her suggestion. I live in South Florida but they don't, however, they are regular visitors. My Dad has been there before but a very long time ago. My mum has visited this restaurant quite a few time prior to Covid. We seated ourselves (party of 5) and waited for assistance. We ordered our food and to our surprise we were served in take-away containers. My Dad, being a traditional man from the Caribbean, was highly surprised and baffled. I approached to person assisting us and asked for plates. She replied, there are no plates. I asked why, she stated that since COVID they've been serving in these take-away containers. This restaurant is not a To go venue - there are many chairs for dining and having to eat in a take-away container changed the experience. This will be my last visit unless the service standard goes back to what it was.

Couldn't tell you how the food is because when I visited them they ignored us. Refused to speak with us.

Taste of the brown stew chicken was underwhelming, as was the cabbage. Got three of the same pieces of the chicken, no variety. The service was good, immediately acknowledged and helped when I walked in.

I was missing white rice in my order and then when I was walking back into the establishment then cashier, asked me if I was missing white rice, then I asked how did she know that before I even asked, then she proceeded to ask me if I wanted white rice or rice and pease and when I originally ordered we had a small discussion about the rices because I asked if she had rice and beans and she said no, so she purposely didn’t put the white rice on the ticket at all so I wasn’t just missing the rice it was not on the receipt at all as if I didn’t order. I also received a poor attitude from the women serving smoothies. The two women that I interacted with were just rude and had nasty attitudes. I felt uncomfortable in just ordering some food, I do not recommend this place if you want to have your order right and be treated with common respect.
