Our family went to Daytona Beach the last week of August for vacation. My daughters and l spent one of our days in the morning shark fishing. We caught several sharks including a spinner shark. Our captain recommended eating that species of shark because spinner sharks taste really good. He recommended taking it to McKenna’s Place because for one they will cook it for you and second the food is great. Our captain cleaned and prepped the shark meat for the restaurant and we showed up at McKenna’s. We were greeted by Richard who was our server. Richard took us to our seats and took our catch back to the kitchen and returned. He asked how we wanted it cooked. The four of us really didn’t know because we had never eaten shark before. He recommended having it prepared the 3 ways they offer. That’s what we did and WOW!!!! The kitchen staff deep fried, grilled, and blackened it. The shark tasted amazing and it was brought out on a large platter that would make anyone drool. Richard was an absolutely amazing server. He was so down to earth and chatted and treated us like family. Richard and the kitchen staff deserve 10 stars. We hope to visit Daytona Beach again in the future and will most definitely stop by McKenna’s Place for food.

Tonight we decided to try a new restaurant close to home. After spending the day on the boat, we decided that we wanted some seafood. We did a Google search of seafood restaurants near us who were still open as it was already 8 PM and found McKenna's place in Port Orange was open until 10, perfect! What struck us first was how friendly everyone was when we walked in the door. Not just the employees but patrons as well . We had just walked through the door and hadn't been standing for a minute at the desk when a young man carrying his to-go meal stopped and asked if we'd been waiting long. We said no. We just got here and he went and got somebody to make sure that we were seated right away. He was on the way out the door from his shift. You don't seem to find that kind of customer service anymore. The young man that seated us was quite jovial and he made some suggestions from the menu that we know we will try the next time we'll be back. And we already know we'll be back. We met the owner Chris McKenna while we were there. He came and sat with us going over menu items. And you couldn't ask for a better bunch of employees. Now let's get on to the food part of our review.
We started off with Buffalo garlic shrimp for an appetizer, and it didn't disappoint. Comes with 3 celery sticks homemade blue cheese, dressing and ranch. The blue cheese was so good that I asked the waiter if we couldn't please have a few more celery sticks and he brought them right over. I really just couldn't let that blue cheese go to waste. The only suggestion is to give a few more with the appetizer. I should have gotten some to take home. For my main entree I had the Ponce Inlet fish of the day. I chose the haddock for my sandwich blackened and as my side I went with the brussel sprouts which were cooked to perfection with bacon. I'm really picky about my brussel sprouts. They were just awesome.
My husband chose the Port Orange seafood combo, he had a choice of two selections. Fried fish and crab cakes with French fries and malt vinegar, his favorite! He said it was the best crab cakes he has had in quite sometime.
We also had a few drafts from the bar. We love Amber ale. A local ale called 'Feeding Frenzy' has won our hearts. If you have not had the pleasure of trying McKenna's place, I highly suggest you give them a try. No need to drive outside of Port Orange for a good meal. We can't wait to try the weekly specials . FYI ... Chris, we belong to Central Florida Foodbusters foodie group, and they will get a rave review there as well. Thanks for everything!

We love McKenna's Place. We actually met there right after Hurricane Ian. We got married 8 months later. We love the daily food & drink specials. Their specials break the monotony of ordering the same thing all the time. One of my favorites is their Fish & Chips dinner. You get 3 nice size pieces of fish, lightly breaded & fried with fries and tarter. I don't like beer batter. That's why this fish is better than a lot of other restaurants. We also go there and play Buzz time trivia. Give it a try. I bet you'll be back. Staff & atmosphere is great too.

What a sweet little gem with quality food and even better service. Smoked fish dip appetizer was fresh and nicely seasoned and our kids loved the mac and cheese. Since it was not he kids' menu, I expected it to taste like it came from the blue box, but this was real deal homemade mac and cheese and some of the best I've had outside my own kitchen. I had the burger which was solid, but I'll be back for the lobster roll! Even more impressive was the service. Alex was probably the BEST server I've ever come across-- such a delightful, pleasant, accommodating, and genuine young man. Such a great attitude, that my brother even commented "he seems to really love not just what he does, but life itself". Other servers could learn a thing or two from how well he does his job-- a positive attitude is infectious and he made our experience over the top! Highly recommend!
