Chelas Mexican Food & Bar

I went there with a friend a couple of days ago . The waitress was very friendly and helpful. It was our first time there, and we liked it very much. I plan to go back soon to try a different dish. I already know what I want.

HOLY SMOKES! I should have read the reviews instead of just going in and checking it out. I ordered steak fajitas.. the steak was sooooo hard to chew.... the corn tortillas seemed like they hadn't been cooked OR heated.. seemed old. The chips they served w/ the salsa were burnt and hard to bite through. There were like 3 that looked soggy at the same time.. The ONLY thing I liked was the salsa but the chips were so bad I couldn't enjoy it. I couldn't take it. I should have known that when there wasn't ANYONE else eating and the place being empty as a sign. Reading through these reviews today... 6 months ago there someone complained about the same dish I ordered. Same issue.. and no change. I didn't take my left overs.. why bother.. they were disgusting.

Well, the place was bare so that should have been a clue but we still gave it a go ,the chips were not crisp but rather “chewy “ the fajitas were a bean dip sauce barley any cheese and rice , the meat was over cooked
We ended up not eating much and did not take the leftovers which is rare for me but the waitress seemed nice bothered , I will not be eating here again.

Loved Chelas when it was a food truck, and love it even more as a restaurant. The food is great, good drinks, and great service.

Tacos were food but awful service. No one in the place and took 15min while sitting at bar for anyone to even approach. Sticky and unclean bar. Bar tender not very freindly.

I arrived Sunday night to give them another chance, because I don't like the service. The same thing again, but the food is worse than ever. From the beginning I told the person who served me that we eat spicy and I wanted a lot of red sauce. An order of 5 tacos and another of huaraches and they give me a miniature red sauce (I have never seen such small containers) and another green one. When I told him I wanted more, he pouted and said that's what they gave. So I told him I eat them here and I put sauce here and so, with a bad face he brought me more sauce. Still not enough for all that food. They lose customers for a 5 cent sauce. And apparently many don't have them. Expensive, ugly and bad attitude. Go somewhere better.

Went in at 8pm on Taco Tuesday 🌮 to find that the place was empty! I instantly thought man these tacos are not going to be good. But man was I wrong! It was some of the best Tacos I’ve ever had. I had 2 Pollo and 2 Carne Asada.

Looking forward to trying more of the menu!

I liked it a lot!
I had some quesadillas, although I don't like quesadilla with rice and beans, but next time I will tell my waitress about my taste in quesadillas. So there I'll see if I add the one that's missing ⭐ 😃💫, thank you for your attention

Wife ordered their fried shrimp. It was the flat shrimp you buy in the frozen food at Publix. My food was plain and cold. Considering we were the only table in the place on a Friday night, not good. The service was terrible, after waiting 15+ minutes for the bill I had to go to the bar to pay. I’ve eaten there before but it’s gone downhill.

Food is delicious and fairly priced compared to the portions.
They have a full bar, some days karaoke.
One of the best authentic Mexican restaurants I’ve been too.

Went in on a Thursday at 7 pm and not a soul in sight. Maybe that should have been the first clue to leave. Ordered fajita trio and enchilada. The meat in the fajita tasted like freezer burn, it was dry and had a weird after taste. The shrimp was definitely not fresh, tasted reheated. The enchilada was okay. The waitress was nice and attentive so we still tipped because the bad food is not her fault. Would not be coming back.

SAVE YOUR MONEY!! 1st time there and won’t be going back!!

Took the family to eat and ordered Jalapeño poppers, Michelada, kids tacos, kids cheese burger, a Churrasco, and 3 tacos.

THE FOOD PLATED WAS NOT WORTH ANYWHERE NEAR $95!!

Save your money and go somewhere else. Poppers were greasy and damn near inedible, cheeseburger undercooked and seasoned, waitress messed up the order on top of that and we were the only customers in the place.

I love this place, it is becoming my go to place anytime I am hungry. Really great food, really good service. I can't wait to go back and try something else from the menu.
