The Galley: A St. Pete Tavern

Just had a very unpleasant experience at the Galley. I was a regular and after today, won’t be going back - it’s for the best anyway.

Because I was on the phone with my mother who I was checking in with, the tender refused to take care of me when I let her know I’d be paying with Apple Pay - which hasn’t been an issue before.

She proceeds to tend to other customers and once moments went by, I approached her to see what was going on as I was waiting on the machine to tap and pay. We had an unpleasant exchange where she claimed I was on the phone - I said I can easily take one second to tap. She says “well, I didn’t want to interrupt your conversation” and it was very clear she had an attitude.

She snatches my device out of my hand, pays and puts it on the counter, rather than my hand. I take my food that I placed to go and paid $20 for to sit outside with their outdoor seating, to have my lunch.

I’m halfway through my lunch and the manager comes out. I was planning on speaking with him when I finished my meal. My face is full of food, he asks me if there’s a problem.

His energy was already not pleasant, as I assume the tender told him her side of the exchange. I explain to him what happened and he doesn’t see an issue, because I was on the phone.

He then proceeds to ask me why I was sitting outdoors eating, if I placed my order to go. I say, “I can’t eat a meal here that I just paid $20 for?” He says, “you can” and with that, I packed my lunch and left. He wished me a good day and I wished him the same, as I walked off.

I simply won’t be coming back, as I don’t appreciate that treatment - especially when I’ve eaten there as often as I have, at least once a week. I brought my family when they came to visit me and recommend it to all of my peers.

I wish the establishment the best though.

The best example of a hole-in-the-wall! This spot has character and really great food. Highly recommend if you're looking for a fun spot with great specials, a hidden gem within St Pete!

Great servers. Amazing vegan options! I try to avoid fried foods, but the zucchini fries and buffalo tofu sandwich keep me coming back for more!!! After a long night of bar hopping it's so nice to have a place with vegan options available. Thank you, Galley! Keep it up.

The dude that waited on us was awesome. Never got his name, but he was cool. I highly recommend this place for sure.

I've been to all 50 states and thousands of bars. This one is hands down my favorite. Brent the bartender is so funny and an absolute sweetheart. Juan is just as amazing! Everyone behind the bar seemed so happy to be there the entire night. Andy's food is insanely delicious especially for the price. This is definitely my go to bar now.

I went there late night and got a couple dogs and surprise was very satisfied with the food. The music that was being played was great. The service made me feel like no matter what needed to happen, my wishes were going to come true. And they did. Thank you for a truly enjoyable experience.
AND THEN CAME THE BILL
$43 For 2 hot dogs, 2 small bags of chips, a soda to go and a draft beer while I waited. $43 in my opinion is just late night price gouging.

I only sat outside with the other cyclists, so not sure about the atmosphere.
Harry was the server and he was super friendly, accommodating. I would go again and get food. People in the group got food and said they liked it.

Favorite bar just to chill have a drink and eat bangin food late night since their kitchen is open later than most. Best blackened chicken sandwich ever.
