Community Brewhouse is a hidden gem located in downtown Sanford. While it may not look like much from the outside, this unassuming spot brews and sells a variety of beer, including the Porchfest Bier and Grumpy Boar Pub Ale. The brewery is known for its expertise in brewing, making it a must-visit for homebrewers. The taproom is cozy, with limited seating and a relaxed atmosphere. Beer enthusiasts will appreciate the opportunity to sample a variety of brews, including the Porchfest Bier, which was a love at first sip for many. The staff, including Gabe, Ernie, and Jose, are warm and welcoming, making visitors feel like family the moment they walk in. Visitors praise the friendly service and the inviting environment, which sets the brewery apart.
The beer selection is consistently excellent, with a thoughtful rotating menu that always offers something fresh and fun. On recent visits, customers enjoyed the Alien Space Juice, a hazy NEIPA at 6.4% ABV that was raw, juicy, and bursting with hop flavor, and the Squirrel Chaser, a 5% golden lager, crisp and classic. The brewery also features an interesting backstory behind Gary’s Beerless Shadow, a beer created after a fun mishap involving a pressurized pipe blast that left a perfect beer silhouette on the wall.
Beyond beer, the brewery has expanded into wine, offering a curated lineup for events like the wine & cheese kickoff, where the “Sanford Sommelier” selected excellent wines such as Cava, Loire Sauvignon Blanc, Mencía, Chilean Carmenere, and a reserve blend of Cab/Carmenere. These wines are thoughtfully chosen, affordably priced, and paired perfectly with cheese. Customers often relax outside, playing cribbage and enjoying the friendly neighborhood vibe.
Overall, Community Brewhouse remains a favorite spot for great beer, good wine, and good people, making it a highly recommended destination in Sanford.
