My boy Bob slayed the grill. Scrumptious. I'm coming back next time I'm in Sanibel.

Get the burger. Good value place, the bar is always busy.

I was invited here by a friend who lives in the area. Don’t think I’ve ever noticed it before as it is very low profile. It is a true locals bar/hangout with basic beers and a few quick ets.

Friendly staff. Had one of their award-winning cheeseburgers it was well prepared and delicious along with a side of onion rings. Very tasty.

We have been here a few times, friendly people and good food, esp the corned beef and cabbage on St.Patricks Day!

Absolutely love this place, my AL post 8 in Winter Haven is great big and wonderful but the post on Sanibel is cozy and welcoming.

CHEESEBURGER IN PARADISE -About a 10 minute scenic bicycle ride from where we stay in Florida sits Sanibel’s American Legion Post 123. We’ve passed this place many times, always seeing the “Public Welcome” sign. I wondered what the deal was so I did a quick Internet search. The ‘typical’ review said “Best Cheeseburger on the island”. Really, could this be? On our last day in town Cindy and I took the bike ride, curious to check it out.If you prefer restaurants with a fancy decor and an extensive menu I recommend avoiding this place. You also may want to avoid it if you don’t like dogs. The Post Commander’s dog Abby is a Regular at the bar.If you enjoy hanging with some Veterans and real locals, while eating an incredible Burger with a cold Beer then this place is for you. The 8 ounce Burger was so good that I had to ask: “Is this a special blend of meat?” He said “No, but the local butcher grinds it to our spec, fresh every morning.”This was a great local experience and we’ll be bicycling there again.#CaptainCooksBackyard #AmericanLegion #eatlocal #sanibel #sanibelisland #cheeseburgers

So happy we stopped in here. We were able to meet some locals, and they gave us some great recommendations.

I have always wanted to stop in for a beer at this Post for many years and finally did so today. I had just finished donating a pint of blood at the mobile unit at Bailey’s and needed a replacement pint or two. I was happy to see Busch Light on tap and decided to eat lunch as well. I asked Cecil the bartender to pick something out for me. The half pound cheeseburger and fries was certainly an excellent choice. I also enjoyed some conversation with a local named Pat and several other visitors. What a great place to soak up some island history and enjoy a cold one with great food. I will be taking my family there on future visits. It was also neat to view the plates from other Posts from around the country including many from my home state of Ohio as well as one from one of my favorite towns; Bottineau, North Dakota. I hope to bring some additional plates from my hometown and other travels.

The folks at this legion are a tight community. When I was getting ready to go back overseas they helped my mom throw a going away party for me here and it was a lot of fun. When I was a kid we used to go to many of their events as well.
