I experienced what can only be described as a nightmarish, hostile, and shockingly abusive drive-through interaction today, 1/4/26, at Culver’s. This was not poor service. This was outright contempt for a customer.
After ordering a single ButterBurger at the speaker, I pulled up to the window where I was met by a young employee (approximately 17–20 years old), a Spanish girl with brown hair and red highlights. From the moment she opened the window, her behavior was openly aggressive. There was no greeting, no eye contact, no professionalism — only attitude. She stated my total in a sharp, dismissive tone as if my presence was an annoyance she could barely tolerate.
When I handed her my card, she attempted to process it and immediately began audibly sighing, rolling her eyes, and displaying visible irritation. She informed me that my card “wasn’t working” because their tap-to-pay system was down. When I calmly suggested she simply run the card normally, she violently threw her hands into the air, snapped at me, and said, “Your card isn’t going to work. This is a YOU problem.” That statement was humiliating, accusatory, and completely unhinged. Blaming a customer for the restaurant’s equipment failure is not just rude — it is unacceptable.
I tried to clarify whether the machine itself was malfunctioning and asked if I could pay directly on the terminal. She refused, made no attempt to help, laughed in my face, and dismissed me with “whatever.” Being laughed at and mocked by an employee while attempting to pay for food is beyond disrespectful. It is degrading. There is absolutely nothing amusing about a business being unable to accept payment and then ridiculing the customer for it.
Because she flat-out refused to do her job, I was forced to abandon the drive-through line, park my car, and enter the restaurant just to complete a simple transaction. When I walked inside, the same employee saw me and ran through the dining room yelling to the manager, “She’s going to tell you I was rude but I wasn’t—”. This was shouted loudly, in front of other customers, directly about me, while I was standing there. Publicly talking about — and yelling about — a customer like this is outrageous and completely inappropriate. I have never witnessed behavior this unprofessional in any establishment.
To make this disaster even worse, after my card worked perfectly inside, I asked to speak to a manager. The woman who identified herself as the manager was just as dismissive and hostile. When I explained what had just occurred, her response was, “What do you want me to do about it?” That response is disgraceful. A manager who reacts with indifference to blatant disrespect, public humiliation of a customer, and refusal to perform basic job duties should not be in a leadership role — period.
This entire experience was hostile, embarrassing, and infuriating from start to finish. Laughing at customers, blaming them for company failures, yelling across the dining room, and responding to legitimate complaints with apathy is not “bad service” — it is a complete collapse of professionalism at every level.
I will not be silent about this. I have a very large social media following (4 million subscribers) and I will be sharing this experience publicly. The drive-through employee’s behavior — laughing, saying “whatever,” accusing customers, and publicly shouting about them — is completely unacceptable and should result in immediate termination. The fact that management defended or dismissed this behavior makes this location an absolute embarrassment

Don't eat beef, but hear the burgers are great. Personally I get the cod fish most of the time and during Lent get their limited availability of walleye. Of course adding onion rings is a must. All taste great!

10 workers just hanging out at the front counter and no other customers. Waited over 10 mins for a vanilla shake and a banana split. My shake was melted by the time it was handed to me. Might help to train your employees better on quality assurance. Especially for the prices you charge.

Have to say that Culvers is my favorite fast food restaurant.....but this time they were a bit off their game. I ordered a milkshake and a cup of frozen custard through the drive through. The milkshake was fine but the custard was pitifully small.....less than half of the small cup was served. A was almost going to give it back but that's not my way. Next time I will though.

Quick service at the drive thru. Probably the best tasting and best value for a burger this quality. Get the double burger.

One of the best burgers you can get in south sarasota. Store has consistently been run well for years. Never had a problem since they opened circa '14.
