We were sat on the bar jpan side and liked it better then the other side of the restaurant. Good music, great decor, great food. The server was also a bartender and was on her game. She was always around when we were ready for next items.
The food was pretty good, but it took forever to place the order. Couldn't find the waiter however, once we did get our order and things went a lot smoother.
Everything Daniel Dokko touches seems to turn to gold. As the owner of two JPan locations, Kore, and soon another new restaurant in Lakewood Ranch, he has mastered every aspect of the business. Just as importantly, he knows how to hire and inspire staff who carry out his vision with respect and consistency—a rarity in the restaurant world. Our favorite JPan has always been the south Sarasota location, and this was our first visit to the UTC restaurant. The servers were, as always, warm and generous. What surprised and moved us most was a gift sent to our table by Daniel himself, who wasn't even present that evening. He had seen our reservation and, after learning of our family's recent loss, quietly extended a gesture of kindness that made the night unforgettable. It's one thing to serve exquisite food with skill and polish. It's another to lead with such care and humanity. At JPan, Daniel Dokko and his team do both.
We have been going to Jpan for years. Our service last night was not good. Waitress seemed annoyed about everything. Food tastes good. Prices have gone way up. The hostesses up front were snooty. Just a different vibe of what it used to be like.
Always great, fresh sushi at JPAN and Herman added an extra touch of friendly, attentive service to make our son's birthday dinner even more special. JPAN is a consistent winner!
Hit and miss. Nothing we ate was exceptional. This is not a five-star sushi restaurant. It's fine for most people, but if you are a sushi aficionado, look elsewhere. The salmon carpaccio had bones in it. The pork dumplings, or potstickers as they are commonly known, were nothing special - And frankly tasted like the ones you can buy in the frozen section of Publix. This town needs a really great sushi restaurant, and this isn't it.
Spring rolls and tempura apps were excellent. Fried dumplings were a little dry; probably would do them steamed next time. Sushi was good, but the cream cheese was a a lot, so maybe I'd look for one without cream cheese next time. Fried rice was excellent.
We have gone to both JPans in Sarasota, and the difference between the two is drastic. We go frequently, and drive further to go to UTC because the food, the ambience, and the staff are unparalleled. Everyone we've ever dealt with there has been amazing, and their food is always fresh, beautifully presented, and delicious. We usually have Pear as our server, per request, because she is outstanding, and has an amazing memory for her regulars, but we've never had bad service there with anyone. I highly recommend the UTC JPan if you're looking for a nice night out with great food.
We waited about 20 minutes before I asked the hostess if she forgot to inform the waiter that we were waiting. 10 minutes later we just started to leave. The hostess stopped us and said the waiter was coming. We we get back to our seats and the waiter came to put in our order. He gave him our entire order. He returned with our drinks, and he never came back. Our apps came, then our sushi came...we didn't have space for all the plates. The person that brought the sushi told someone from the back to take our dirty plates. We asked a different waiter if they knew where our waiter was as we wanted to order more drinks. No one came back to take our drink order. At the end of our meal he finally back with our check and tried walking off....we stopped him and gave him our credit card before he could take off. This dinner was about 2.5 hours. If we had drinks, we probably wouldn't be upset 😂
Our waiter Alec was great, The food was mediocre at best. Food wasn't neither fresh nor tasty. It seemed it was just thrown together from the day before. Would not recommend nor return.

Just a small complaint, not enough to keep up from loving this place but we couldn't have a heater outside because they were out of propane so just making sure they are filled and plentiful would really step up the situation. We love Jpan. Always a family favorite.
Too many 'American-focused' sushi menu items. Service was good but not great. Ambience is nice and location is great. I would do it again because the sushi is good and there are not many alternatives. I just wish we could find one that would be great in the Lakewood Ranch/UTC area.
Each order came out separately with quite a bit of time in between. One diner was finished eating before another got her meal served. Some dishes were only warm not hot. Service was terrible. See above. Also server got two orders wrong. Most diners liked their food when it finally arrived.
Visited JPAN twice during our stay in the area. Food was excellent both times. Dined with group of 6 and everyone was impressed with food quality and selection. Nice ambiance and good service. Highly recommend!
We had an amazing dinner - the food was incredible as was the service. We were able to take advantage of happy hour and the wine was great quality, the other cocktails and drinks we ordered were delicious as well. The service was very prompt, and our server was very friendly, courteous and attentive without being smothering. The dishes we ordered were all delicious, fresh and creatively presented. We were very impressed and will be back!
