Took a leap of faith on this restaurant on a one day visit to Sarasota with a dear friend. Downtown location puts Selva Grill right in the heart of a very nice part of the city away from the tourist area. Nice bar with great bartenders and superbly crafted drinks. We sat just off the bar at a window and enjoyed watching the place fill up as our dinner progressed. Our server, Eric, was OUTSTANDING. Attentive to our needs and requests, kept our water glasses full and paced our meal so we could savor every course. Appetizers and Ceviches are incredible and our Sea Bass and Lamb chop entrees were a feast for eyes and palate. We will happily drive from Naples to Sarasota again soon just to enjoy this great venue.

Truly one of our favorite places in town! The dishes are delicious and beautiful at the same time. The service is amazing as well as the drinks. Few places leave me thinking about my dining experience for days afterwards but Selva does this to me every time!

Always have a great experience at Selva Grill Downtown Sarasota. Great food, great service, excellent menu, and the list goes on and on. I had the Seafood Paella Risotto which is always wonderful. I love that dish.

My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and decided a trip to Sarasota from Tampa might be nice so we headed down to Selva Grill. My wife had the sword fish and I had the surf and turf special which was bone-in Ribeye and Shrimp kebab. The sword fish was excellent and the presentation was beautiful so we both recommend this dish. The presentation on my steak and shrimp was a work of art (see image). However, there was a few years that I would ask the waiter if the beef was grass finished or grain finished. This time I did not....I thought that restaurants wanting to force its patrons to live 2-3 minutes longer, eating a grass finished steak, was over but was wrong. Nonetheless, service and manager felt terrible about my “disgust” and provided a free desert which was another work of art. We will go back, but I will not order steak. The chef of Selva should eat one of his steaks and compare to a prime grain finished steak then decide whether to serve beef that can run the 100 in 5 seconds. I think the decision is easy. BTW ALL Cows eat grass....it's the way they are finished that makes all the difference.

Service is top in Sarasota. Michelle and Steve run a great ship. You are treated like royalty. And then Travis was our server. Perfection... funny, knows the menu well, in tuned to our desire to sip a little before ordering. You could not ask for more but they would give it! The food ... the plating is a feast for the eyes and the flavors are a feast for your palette. Empanadas, fantastic! Love the yellow sauce! The shrimp cocktail is a must and ask for a spoon to scoop out all the goodness in the sauce The men split the lamb chops and had truffle fries (my husbands favorites) it was plenty of food. We also had the short rib spring rolls, a favorite over and over again. And the roasted chicken is outstanding but the unusual slaw makes it magic. The Selva Caesar salad is so unusual and awesome. A favorite for us. The clam chowder is over the top awesome. The wine list is extensive. The cocktails are generous. The most imaginative menu in SRQ. The best service in SRQ. They will spoil you for any other place in the area.

Arrived at the restaurant 45 minutes before reservation to have some cocktails in the lounge and get a feel for the vibe. The lounge is narrow, but perfect for a more relaxed setting while still elevated. The noise level coming from the restaurant side was like that of cafeteria noise. Once over to the restaurant side, the ambiance is well done for the space they are working with. Acoustic dampeners would be ideal in this space to bring the noise level down. Starters: ordered the empanadas & roasted tomato salad along with the Hawaiian Wahoo civeche. Plating and presentation was great. Food was well executed. Could have done without the sauce on top of the empanadas. A little bit of over editing. Entrees: I ordered the New Zealand lamb chops with asparagus and truffle risotto. Second entree was the Paella seafood risotto with white fish. The entrees again, were well plated and an elevated presentation. The paella risotto was very well balanced and energetic in its palette. The lamb chops had a different approach to the crust than the traditional pistachio in which rendered slightly underwhelming. There was no seasoning to the lamb chops. I had to add salt to the meat. To break the proteins down and render a better flavor this should be happening before it is fired. Truffle risotto was amazing as well as asparagus. Overall; I would return. However, would be a better experience in the bar area for ambience. I will have to try this place again to try their steak to find out if the lack of meat preparation continues through the menu. S Service was fantastic! Seafood and risotto seem to be safe choices.
