The other reviews were absolutely right—this is likely the most authentic Chinese restaurant in Sarasota. The flavors are well-balanced, with sauces that are neither overly salty nor sweet—just the way Chinese cuisine should be. While the menu is tailored slightly for American tastes (all fish are filleted, so no really fresh whole crispy fish I was hoping to find in traditional Chinese dining), the dishes still deliver on taste.
One standout was the braised tofu, which reminded me of the flavors I experienced in Hong Kong—rich, savory, and comforting.

Very good basic Chinese food. My Szechuan chicken with vegetables was nicely spiced. Large portions. Friendly attentive service.

Excellent. The best chinese food of sarasota for sure! Forget the common chinese food that all of them taste the same. This one are the most tastefully of the city. Si eres de Venezuela este sitio tiene sabor muy parecido a nuestra comida china Venezolana 😁

Friend ordered shrimp fried rice and egg drop soup. I ordered egg foo young and egg drop soup. We shared the salt and pepper calamari.
Soup was very good! Calamari was AMAZING!! Crisp, light batter, tender calamari - more like strips, not rings, and not greasy! I would go back just for that!!
Egg foo young was bland. Adding a little low-sodium soy sauce helped flavor up the gravy. Accompanying pork friend rice was meh. Shrimp friend rice was fairly tasteless and there were maybe 3, possibly 4 shrimp.
My son has eaten there, and brought home mei fun that had a curry flavor and it was really tasty, so this experience was a little disappointing.

The taste of Hong Kong is the best Chinese food in Sarasota or in the area. The ladies that run this restaurant are absolutely wonderful, very attentive to all their customers and always have a smile on their face. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Chinese food and the portions are huge.

Great food, great service. I gave only 3 stars for atmosphere because the place is small. However they truly make the most of the space they have. This was our 3rd visit. It does not disappoint

I can’t recommend this place enough. The bourbon chicken is a masterpiece, and the pad Thai is always a go-to. Every time I leave, I feel full and satisfied, but never weighed down by preservatives—everything tastes fresh. The service can be a little reserved at first, but don’t let that throw you off; the waitresses are actually incredibly sweet, and as you become a regular, they warm up more and more. They do take a month off every year, and I genuinely miss them when they’re gone.
Having been a loyal customer for seven years, I can confidently say that Taste of Hong Kong is easily one of the top three spots in Sarasota. I’ve never had a bad dish, and the consistency is unmatched. Highly recommend it!

The best Chinese food I’ve had in a while. We particularly enjoyed the chicken fried rice and orange chicken.

My wife heard good things about this place so we tried it about 6 months ago. The waitress seemed impatient and unwilling to talk about the dishes during the ordering process. We ordered a rice dish, sweet&sour chicken(sauce on the side), and the salt&pepper squid. My wife raved about the s&s chicken (I agree), but my s&p squid (a breaded fried dish) came out room temperature(after waiting a fairly long time for the food). It had to have just sat in the kitchen to be that low temp. Very disappointing. The manager(owner?) asked how the meal was. I described exactly what occurred and she just stared at me, and walked away. After that I refused to go back for months, but the wife really wanted to return so I agreed. This time I ordered the seafood chow fun. It was great; equal to what I’ve had in San Francisco and Philadelphia. We’ve been back several more times and have had excellently prepared meals. Service can be so so.

Dinner was delicious, and the dishes were really authentic (I’m of Chinese descent, and it reminded me of great home cooking!). It has been hard to find good Cantonese food here, but now we’ve found one of the best! It will be on regular rotation!
