A charming, small, quiet local spot with a varied menu. The quality is consistently good (been there at least a dozen times in the past couple of years) with nice sake choices as well. Service is always good and staff and chefs are welcoming. Parking has become more more challenging lately, but definitely worth the trouble.
We have always had a go to sushi spot. But, tonight we wanted something closer to home. Utamaro exceeded our expectations! Quite possibly the freshest, best quality sushi we have had. Will be our new sushi spot! Thanks for providing such quality and service.

I’m honestly not sure why this place gets so much hype. Overall, the experience was average at best. As sashimi lovers, we were disappointed by the limited sashimi selection, with not much variety to choose from. The rolls also felt very similar to one another, lacking creativity or distinction.
While the fish itself was fresh and the dishes were visually very well presented, the overall quality and flavor just weren’t there. Everything looked beautiful on the plate, but the taste didn’t live up to the presentation or the reputation.
Considering the high prices, the experience felt underwhelming. For a restaurant with so much buzz, we expected more depth of flavor and a stronger overall execution. Unfortunately, it missed the mark for us.

Utamaro Sushi in Sarasota is a must-try! Every visit is an absolute delight. From the delicious food to the impeccable service and presentation, it consistently ranks as my top choice for sushi. My personal favorites are the Sarasota and Godzilla rolls, as well as the Volcano. The service is always exceptional—fast, efficient, and incredibly friendly.
