Security is violent, disrespectful and it's destroying this gem of a lounge ... they can literally are assaulting people from inside the club outside in public sidewalk. Been here six years. Craziest, rudest security guards in the world. This bar needs to get rid of third party security before they lose all their customers and fail. Also same security at Xmas bar next door. Bring a taser of pepper spray with you for either security agent at either bar😂

**Statement Regarding Incident on Wednesday, October 27, at The Detroit Bar**

I am a permanently and physically disabled woman who relies on a red scooter for mobility. On Wednesday, October 27, 2024, I experienced a deeply traumatic and disturbing event at The Detroit Bar on Central Avenue in downtown St. Petersburg.

While seated with my back turned, a piano player, a complete stranger, came up behind me and, without any warning, put his hands around my neck and squeezed. In my entire life, I have never had a man put his hands around my neck—let alone someone I didn’t even know. The sheer shock of realizing that this was happening, with no one to stop him, was terrifying. He then came even closer into my personal space, leaving me no choice but to shout for him to move away.

What makes this even more alarming is that, when I spoke with the security guard, he admitted to seeing the entire incident. Yet, he did nothing. Why didn’t he intervene when he saw a strange, intoxicated man putting his hands on a small, disabled woman? His inaction is beyond comprehension. What is his role if not to protect patrons like me, especially those who are physically vulnerable?

This experience has left me shaken and deeply disturbed. Earlier that evening, I was meditating after writing my birth mother’s obituary, only to have this horrifying event taint her memory forever. I now carry the weight of this violation with me, both physically and emotionally, and it is completely unacceptable.

The security presence at The Detroit Bar is not just for show; it is there to ensure the safety of everyone who steps inside. This is a failure of that responsibility. I demand answers and expect action to be taken so that no one else has to endure the violation and trauma I experienced. This cannot be ignored or minimized.

The only saving grace in this entire bar was the bartender Sydney with the goggles .

Asked for a Stella, gave my card, asked to close it, credit card notified me $20.. didn’t ask me to sign the receipt. Getting ripped off killed my vibe, didn’t even drink the beer just left.

Great live music and awesome prices on their tequila. Jason was exceptional introducing me to their selection with a positive vibe, and he explained their $2 off on Tuesday. I definitely recommend, and probably a great place to take a date!

I was kicked out of this club apparently because there were 5 complaints against me . I only met 6 people. Most of the time I spent following up on emails.
the security guard said I had the 5 complaints which are ridiculous.
A. The bartender could have been nicer and I tipped well.
B- I met two young women and one of tge sisters loved photography, my field nice conversation. And we had a nice chat
3- a guy tried to have me dance with him which I turned down.
C- 2 other women that I chatted with briefly. We're dancing I shot a short Vidieo out of professional respect I asked her if they wanted it and they said no, I immediate deleted Ted it. I was in no way out of hand, drunk or rude.
The security guard had no specific reasoning other than 5 people said something when more than 3/4 of my time was spent responding to emails. This is absolutely harassment, and I may consult my attorney for definition of character.

Small point place to go and disappear off the busy street outside. Really enjoyed the live music. If you get a chance to visit you should ask the bartender for some Reif Rum! You won't regret it ?

I absolutely love the esthetic of this spot. Always great music but my favorite thing is the bartender Heather who is always so attentive and makes me feel at home. She also makes the best mocktails I've ever had.

I stayed for the band, which was 5 stars. It was the night before Memorial Day and very busy. The staff was simply overwhelmed and the management hadn't provided nearly enough staff. Three times more would have been appropriate. It's really too bad when management gets greedy and expects miracles from 2 staff members because they're too cheap to pay for more help. Didn't eat, no idea. Here for the music.
