Other reviews mentally prepared me for service being slow but my g-d...A group of 6 of us went on Monday (half price menu except for drinks and desserts). It wasn't crowded. The waitress explained that on half-price night, they ask patrons to order everything at once 'so the kitchen can maintain the flow". That made sense. We ordered everything to include 5 appetizers and bread since they do not provide complimentary bread and oil. Now we wait.
And wait.
And wait.
Tables beside us who came in after us got their appetizers. Some of my friends also worked in restaurants said clearly our waitress forgot to put our orders in.
And wait.
One of my friends who was NOT mentally prepared for this said "Im HANGRY! I'm about to walk into the kitchen and start throwing elbows while I eat whatever is on the line."
And wait.
Over an hour later, our entrees come out.
At this point, I cancelled my salad because I DID want that before my entree. Everyone was ravenous and loved their meals. THe gnocci in vodka sauce was a hit and my carbonara with pancetta was quite good too.
But where is the rest of the food? And the bread that we ordered? We are left with yummy sauce on our plates and no bread.
The appetizers never came and our server was MIA so as we were getting ready to leave, we walked up to the manager and had all the appetizers taken off the bill while asking for the check.
If you're going to leave hungry guests waiting that long, the least you can do is give them bread to gnosh on.
The food was good (at least that which made it to our table) so for that reason, I'd be willing to eat here again but I can't do it unless I have a solid 2 hours to spare.

Last night was great at Matteo’s . I had never been before , and was surprised that they offer a lot of menu items for half price on Mondays only - all night ! Our server , Robin , was very attentive even though she was super busy . The food was authentic Italian and the menu reflected that . Not many places have black truffle ! Very cool ! We’ll be back .

Disappointing Experience - Will Not Return
I’m incredibly upset with how my order was handled today. I called in advance to confirm the half-off pasta promotion, but when I received the order, I was charged full price AND one of the pastas was missing entirely.
When I called to address the mistake, the staff acted completely oblivious and unhelpful. This level of rudeness and lack of accountability is disheartening, especially for a customer who has been coming every Monday for pasta.
Because of this unacceptable experience, I’ve decided to reverse the transaction through my bank. You’ve lost a loyal customer, and I won’t be coming back.

The food is really good - we had a group of 9 people, ordered everything from pizzas to veal parmigiana to gnocchi. Every dish was really well prepared. One of our group is gluten and dairy free and she said that the gluten free pizza was the best she ever had. We will return!
We don’t usually leave bad reviews, but our experience at Matteo Trattoria & Pizzeria just wasn’t great.
The vibe and music were awesome—fun and upbeat—but the food and service really let us down. We ordered the chicken marsala, and it came with potatoes instead of pasta. That caught us off guard since we’re used to it being served with pasta. When we asked the waiter about it, he kind of brushed us off and made things awkward. We even brought it up again later, but nothing was done, so the dish sat there untouched the whole time. We ended up boxing it up to take home for someone else in the family to try, but it’s frustrating that they didn’t make it right.
We also ordered two pizzas. One was good, but the other was burnt. When we mentioned it to the waiter, he just walked away like he didn’t hear us. My husband loved his chicken parmesan, so at least one dish was a win, but the rest of the experience really soured the visit.
When we were checking out, we mentioned again that the chicken marsala wasn’t touched, and the waiter didn’t even apologize. It was honestly so strange and disappointing.
We loved the atmosphere, but the food and service just weren’t worth it. Sadly, we wouldn’t go back.
Dietary restrictions: I got the gluten free pizza it was good except one was extremely burnt.

I had the veal parmesan .It was as a thin playing card and as crisp a potato chip it was horrible. Tha sauce had so much acid I was up all night. I know about food my family's is in the restaurant business in NYC for over 60 years that was the worst I've ever eaten.. The service was very good 5 star.

We waited an hour and a half for our food. It was 1/2 price Monday. I’ve been there on Mondays numerous times. I don’t see us going back

We got awful food poisoning from here - we know it was from Matteo because we had not shared any other food all week. I reached out via phone and wasn't answered so I left a voicemail explaining what happened - didn't even ask for a refund, just wanted them to address the problem so no one else got sick. I never heard back from them.
Love this place, fantastic pizza and absolutely great customer service.
Uber eats deliver arrived with one salad and missing the two entrees. Said restaurant had nothing else. Restaurant is not checking outgoing orders and their listed phone number gives a busy signal. Awful service.

Good food, and good variety of choice. Ordered calamari, was given a huge bowl with marinara, lemon and even fried shrimp. The pizza was good but go for pasta. The gnocchi is definitely well made. Chicken parm was okay. Avoid ordering the vegetables with the entrees however, they taste steamed and cheap. Atmosphere isn’t very Italian but nothing in downtown St. Petersburg really is.
