What a beautiful restaurant, great atmosphere and attentive service. There are many restaurants similar to, but in my opinion, compare to Campo Azul. Personal favorites: the tableside guacamole, El Muchacho margarita and Molcajete bowl!

I read the many positive reviews of this place and chose to go there. I can't possibly say how disappointing my husband and I found this restaurant. Atmosphere was dark cobalt blue plastic seating and walls (I believe). Cold, boring and not happy colorful Mexican feeling. Two wonderful large paintings though which did help somewhat. Drinks unbelievably expensive; never seen such expensive drinks including Manhattan and Paris. Why? This place is in the middle of Florida and it's Mexican which is usually fairly reasonable. Don't understand those drinks. My first one was large and filled with the mixer that I had specifically said that I did not want and then they also put in Fresca or soda water or something as filler. Had requested Mezcal and they had none. Then, I had asked for just fresh lime, Triple Sec and Tequila and received something entirely different and had to pay for it. BAD drink! Over fried taco chips and watery liquid salsa. Then the food: Had a cheese quesadilla which was tiny, and made in one approx 7"-8" taco shell. It had flavorless cheese and was folded over. That was it. No onions, scallions, anything. Never saw or had such a boring one! Then the guacamole. Seemed to be packaged supermarket stuff (I may be incorrect but tasted like packaged glop) and not the great fresh avocados prepared at the table of which I had been told. I make my own great guac and their's tasted so ordinary and packaged. What happened to the made-at-the-table stuff of the rave reviews? Then we had Chile Rellanos. The poblanos, all 3 were flavorless as was the cheese stuffing. The egg batter was super-thick, about 1/2" of batter. No flavor in the recipe. Everything was extremely disappointing. I am very very use to eating Mexican food and it is my favorite along with Thai and Indian. We eat Mexican food all the time in Mexico but also in Sarasota where we live and in Boston area where we live. We eat it in St. Pete, in Taos, and in many many other places. We really did not like anything about the restaurant except for the paintings. It struck out in every possible way. Happy that so many people love the place. Sorry to be so negative and leave such a review but I felt it important to take the time to write this up. Luckily we were just going through so we don't have to rely on this place for our Mexican cuisine.

Most of the food was very bland. The guacamole though had an unusual spice added to it that gave it an awful taste. Not hot; odd.
