The other reviews are spot on. I was craving some no nonsense, straight to the point good eatin’. Meat and potatoes. Germans do that pretty well. Our usual haunts are Old Heidelberg or Checkers Old Munchen with their trusty German fare and excellent decor. Last night, the food Gods nudged us towards this joint. While we were pulling up into the plaza we were slightly disappointed and upon entering the restaurant, we were slightly skeptical and began doubting some of the good reviews we read because it’s not much by way of a restaurant setting. It’s a few tables thrown together in a rather bland, minimally decorated room but boy, we were in for a surprise. The chef and the hostess both are extremely pleasant and friendly. We were personally greeted by both, albeit because it was slow on a Sunday evening.Ordered the Bitburger - excellent as always.Apps:1. The goulash soup was a show stopper. It was an amazing precursor to good things to come.2. 2 sausage platter - terrific!3. Potato pancakes - on point.4. Bread plate - excellent. The roast pork, sausage and schnitzel main course. Absolutely outstanding. The sauerkraut and red cabbage - some of the best I’ve had.The Apple strudel and the drunken cherry with ice cream was above and beyond and sealed the deal completely. The key take away points were this - the food - each and every dish tasted like home cooking. Authentic, absolutely fresh and very very tasty. Sorry old Heidelberg and checkers - this is the new bar to beat.I don’t say this too often but thank you chef! You truly put your heart and soul into the food and I could taste it in every bite.

What a great find! Don't judge this place by it's no-frills interior and hole-in-the-wall location. Chef Rene in the kitchen is preparing some seriously good eats. Classic German-Austrian Cuisine was exactly what I was expecting. Fresh baked bread was complimentary and delicious. Comes with their house whipped butter, which has an interesting flavor profile to it, with some cheese and spices blended in. I started with the Escargots, served in a hot crock with plentiful minced garlic and a butter-stock broth. Would have been even better with some crostinis, but another slice of the fresh bread was sufficient. The escargot was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Ice cold Acqua Panna mineral spring water from Italy (my favorite) was a perfect palate cleanser before the main dish arrived. RUN don't walk to try Rene's Schnitzel!! Pounded in house, hand battered and breaded, and lightly fried to perfection - this was the fluffiest and most moist schnitzel I have ever had! I went with the Schnitzel Holstein, sans gravy, served with a fried egg on top. Personally, I would have enjoyed two eggs, and maybe even gravy on the side, but I'll ask for that next time. Frankly, I could have downed two of these bad boys, as the portion size is relatively modest (not small, but definitely not large), but I was thoroughly satisfied. The waiter suggested that I try the Apple Strudel, and I obliged. The strudel was a disappointing finish to an otherwise good meal. Limp pastry, skimpy apples, served with a spray of canned whipped cream, and a drizzle of flavor-contradicting Hershey's chocolate syrup. Next time I'll go without and simply savor the flavor of the Schnitzel instead. All in all, a great West side spot for excellent Schnitzel, and this foodie will certainly be back!

Fantastic food! We had the goulash and potato pancakes to start and were already hooked. Even the bread was amazing! We had the Snitchzelhaus platter that had a little bit of everything, this was a perfect choice. We ended with the apple strudel and weren't disappointed. Not only was the food fabulous, the atmosphere was unique and inviting. Muffin and Rene are wonderful! Can't wait to go back!

I don't usually write reviews but I had to share the most delicious German food we had at Rene's Schnitzelhaus. We were looking for a good German restaurant and the reviews for this restaurant were excellent and thought we should give it a try. So happy we did! Everything we ordered was fabulous. Our table ordered the goulash soup, chicken schnitzel, pork cordon bleu, and sausage platter, everything was absolutely delicious. Can't wait to go back to try something else on the menu.

What a treasure to be found and experienced in the neighborhood! The decor is simple but charming, having breakfronts with steins, Hummels, decorative plates. Soft German music and a wonderful menu rounded out the evening. Our server was a gracious lady who was helpful, friendly and unobtrusive. . The schnitzels are outstanding!! The Jaegerschnitzel was large with delicious mushroom/onion gravy and accompanied by an outstanding potato pancake. You want to get every last drop with the fantastic bread. When Rene carried the just baked Apple strudel through the room, the smell of cinnamon enticed my group to get a slice. We were not disappointed with the homemade whipped cream. Please try this restaurant once and you’ll be sure to return. This is a gem that we must support!

What a find!! My daughter and granddaughters had been here before and couldn't stop the positive comments. It is a hidden treasure on Oakland Park Blvd. The schnitzels were outstanding. In our party we ordered pork and chicken and jaegerschnitzel. All of them melted in your mouth. The accompanying potato salad and potato pancakes were reminiscent of meals my mother made. The jaegerschneitzel had a delicious gravy of mushrooms and onions which was fantastic with the potato pancake and applesauce. We enjoyed a Riesling with the meal and it was superb. The chef brought a newly baked pan of Apple strudel through the room. The cinnamon wafted through the air and, of course, we got a piece to share. The yummy whipped cream melded so well with the apples and flaky pastry. Between the German music in the background and the breakfronts filled with steins, Hummels, and imported dishes, you feel as though you were transported far away to Europe. The chef and his staff were so outgoing, talkative, and friendly that my party felt we were one of the family. Needless to say, we will be returning again very soon.

Chef Rene & Waiter Stephan give you great service & delicious food with a smile. They are very welcoming unlike the previous owners of Lui's The food is definitely homemade & fresh made to order. Ambiance is so reflective of the cuisine which is a nice touch. Will definitely come back to eat here & you should too.

You don't have to be German to enjoy their food! The pork shank was perfect-crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.. the cherry dessert with ice cream was outstanding! One of the best desserts I have ever had!! Rene and the waitress were so friendly and cordial, you felt like you were family!!

last restaurant in spot for over 20 years uncle Luis had much better food .the duck was not as good nor were the sides website price and restaurant price different if you want great duck go a few miles south to mustard seed non comparable. discrepancy of $9. in website to price on check was not honored by chef. 6 tables were taken from 5-8 on a Saturday night old Munchen on Atlantic has a 30 minute waiting list with every table taken, figure it out. don't wast your time and money restaurant will probably change hands soon

Had a wonderful meal served to us by Stephan. Our party of four had the pork schnitzel, sauerbraten, wienerschnitzel, and Jaeger schnitzel. All of the food was wonderful. The sauerbraten was some of the best I have had. The spaetzle and red cabbage were phenomenal. Very flavorful cooked perfection. Don't let the small size fool you. This is good food at a reasonable price. Thank.
