As soon as we arrived for my birthday dinner, me and my friends received stares from the women sitting outside while I was taking some pictures. We sat down and the waiter was extremely rude to my friend who asked a simple question and sighed every time he returned to our table. I will not be returning.

I’ve yet to have a proper dinner here yet. But I’ve gotten a quick bite and drinks at the bar a couple times. Each item I’ve tried was delicious. The bartenders are super friendly. And usually the folks around the bar are great at this spot also. I was impressed that they had a mocktail menu. I tried a friend’s spicy mango mocktail OMG it was DELICIOUS with a nice kick. It rivaled my actual cocktail. lol
High prices, mediocre quality. Got a fried chicken sandwich and it was quite a disappointment
Great atmosphere with really good food and service. I enjoyed the whipped feta app and the pesto pasta. The carrot cake for dessert was fresh and tasty! We shared a bottle of red wine and it came out at the perfect temperature. Last aspect I enjoyed was the music - not too loud and a good breadth of genres.

We recently had Hayward House cater an office baby shower, and the experience was exceptional from start to finish. The food was absolutely exquisite—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Everything was delivered right on schedule and presented with care and attention to detail. A special thank you to Toni, who went above and beyond to assist with our order. Her professionalism and dedication ensured that every aspect was perfectly executed. I am truly grateful for her support and highly recommend Hayward House for any catering needs.

A Gem in Tallahassee – The Hayward House is Simply Exceptional!
If you’re anywhere near Tallahassee and haven’t yet experienced The Hayward House, you are truly missing out on one of the city’s finest dining treasures. From the moment you step through the door, you feel the warm, welcoming atmosphere that strikes the perfect balance between Southern charm and contemporary elegance.
At the heart of this American bistro is Ashley Chaney, the brilliant owner and proprietor whose passion for hospitality is evident in every single detail. Ashley has cultivated not just a restaurant, but a community gathering space. Her vision is clear in every plate, every smile from the staff, and every seasonal menu that celebrates the freshest local ingredients, while also thoughtfully nodding to her own upbringing and family.
The menu at Hayward House is balanced. Each includes seasonal selections that rotate regularly, meaning there’s always something new to fall in love with. Yet, the staple dishes, like the comforting poutine, remain all year long! (PS when the she crab soup is on menu…go just for that!)
What truly elevates the experience, though, is the dedicated, hardworking staff. Their attentiveness, warmth, and genuine enthusiasm mirror Ashley’s own passion. You can tell they’re proud to be part of something special—and it shows in the impeccable service.
In short, The Hayward House is more than a meal—it’s an experience. It’s where stories are shared, where new flavors are discovered, and where every visit feels like coming home. Ashley Chaney has built something remarkable here, and Tallahassee is all the richer for it.
Don’t walk—run—to The Hayward House. You’ll be glad you did. And, while you’re there, if you have an idea or recipe for a special, Southern dish, tell Ashley or one of her wonderful managers. You never know, you may just see her riff on it one day. She cares that much about you and this community!
Bravo Hayward House!

Good lunch and dinner options. Fairly fast service, good lunch spot.
The menu is varied so something for everyone....appetizers, sandwiches, dinners, etc.
Full bar with liquor/beer options.
We enjoyed the heirloom tomato BLT and French dip. Edited to add the Katsu Eggplant sandwich is silly delicious, the wedge salad looks incredible, and the French fries are always great.
Have also previously enjoyed the chicken dandwich.

I went during a kinda slow period but it took a while to even get water and a menu which wasn't ideal. Someone other than my server had to notice and come help out.
But other than that the food and drink were good! I had a peach cocktail and a fish wrap. They were both well made and tasted good. Nothing mind boggling but certainly satisfactory, and worth the cost.

Beautiful outdoor setting and a great mimosa, but the food was a big letdown. The breakfast sandwich croissant was rock hard, the fries tasted like leftovers, and the Brussels sprout salad was raw and tough. Salmon was fine but bland. Friendly service, but we won’t return for the food.

The Whipped Feta and Pork Belly appetizers were pretty good. The Fries Chicken Sandwich was good but a tad on the burnt side. The Halibut was slightly overcooked. The Short Ribs pasta was great. Would return.
