One of our employees had a birthday and specifically requested a vanilla cake with vanilla frosting, and raspberry filling. Normally we'd buy the cakes from Fresh Market or Whole Foods, but I wanted to do a nice thing for this employee and get them exactly what they wanted. I called and placed my order - which is where the first red flag was. The young woman taking my order never asked for filling preference, so I had to stop her and specifically ask for the raspberry filling. Queue the next day, I stop by to pick up the cake and ask again at the counter SO THE FILLING IS RASPBERRY, CORRECT? And again the young woman says yes. So I'm surprised when we're at the employee's birthday celebration and cut the cake and it has WHITE BUTTERCREAM FROSTING as the filling. Are you kidding me?! This was a simple request, repeated multiple times, and was the entire reason I purchased the cake from this shop to begin with. When I called the shop and asked to speak to the manager, the young woman said she was busy and asked what the problem was. When I let her know, she went to talk to the manager and came back and said 'yea, that was a mistake, we can remake the cake or give you a credit.' The manager obviously doesn't prioritize customer service and refused to handle an issue like this over the phone. The young woman on the phone did not care at all. Very disappointing to spend $40 for the wrong cake (which wasn't even that amazing), when I could've spent $25 at Whole Foods and it been delicious. My mistake, we won't be using the Cake Shop for anything ever again.

I just visited this shop and spent a LOT on cookies. The cookies may be very tasty (have not tried them yet) however the customer service I received was non existent. I arrived with no one else in the shop, the employee stood staring at me with no greeting waiting on me to tell her what I wanted. I paid and NO communication from her. No thank you or anything else. So extremely disappointing and rude.

I just spent $47.00 at this specialty shop on cookies. For this experience I received no greeting when I arrived, no one else was in the shop and your employee was staring at me waiting for me to tell her what I wanted. I also received NO thank you or any form of communication upon paying or leaving. To spend this much money on non necessities only to be unappreciated and ignored is appalling. I will be sharing this experience with my friends and colleagues.

(Please note: I’ve never left a poor review, …especially for a small/local business). We recently moved back to Tallahassee, as this is my hometown. I was so excited to be able to frequent The Cake Shop again, as it’s been my family’s favorite for years. What an horrible mistake…….Both cakes not only looked horrendous, the icing tasted like a greasy mix of “barely sweetened crisco-butter.As well, I ordered the peanut-butter chocolate cake” and it had no peanut butter! Of course, I phoned immediately after opening the boxes and was told to send an email! (Needless to say, I did not use either cake and rushed to Publix for help). That was an expensive and stressful lesson. Very disappointed.

We stopped by a few weeks ago during FSU family weekend. The shop is adorable, we ate inside. Ordered mini cupcakes, a mini strawberry cheesecake and a mini key lime cake. Everything was very tasty. Friendly and quick service. Highly recommended.

I’ve ordered two birthday cakes - 6” rounds. They were both delicious! This size cake is cheaper than the same one at Publix, and it is 10x more delicious! We ordered vanilla and peanut butter chocolate - both just wonderful! It also serves 6-8 people. Great value for a homemade cake! (In picture the 3D decorations are mine!)

I have been a patron of the Cake Shop for a long time, but I will no longer recommend it and will not be returning. I say this with great sadness as I have a long history with this business (I even celebrated my son's birthday when he was a toddler here many years ago, before they had their current event space) and have stopped in for many treats over the years. I have heard whispers that Linda, the owner, was hard to work with, but never had the misfortune of experiencing that until today. It started back in February when planning a baby shower for my best friend. I contacted the Cake Shop to determine if a date in June was available. I sent several emails and called for almost a month because I received no response. Eventually, the father-to-be and I decided we'd have to go in person. Even at that time, there was resistance to speaking to us, but we confirmed the date, time, and number of guests. We were informed that all we would have to do next is provide colors, and Linda would even accommodate a flavor request for the filling of the cake, since we had such a hard time reaching them. Father to be and I left our contact information. Invites to 25 guests went out last week. Today, I got an email from the mother-to-be that the date of our event would not work, and Linda had sent me two emails about it. Unfortunately, this is a complete fallacy. I went in person today to show the lack of emails that I have. Linda refused to show me her contact attempts and gave a lot of excuses for how poorly things were handled (she's not good with technology, she didn't have my contact information, she thought I had opted to go with a different venue). Now I'm in a situation where I have less than a month and a half to find an alternative venue, bakery, caterer, and I have to send out revised invitations. Linda made it very clear it was not her problem. She knows I will be submitting this review and that I will no longer be a patron of this business. Based on the reviews, I'm not the only one with issues. It's in the business's best interest to consider if there's any merit to the feedback they are receiving and adjust accordingly, but something tells me Linda doesn't do well with feedback, or with customer service, or with event planning. Truly gutted over this.

I think the cake and pastries here are really tasty. My only complaint is the store hours. They're essentially open M-F from 8:30 to 4:30 and many people work 8 to 5. They also only have a 10-2 hour window to pick up on Saturday's. It's very inconvenient to be a customer during those times when you work and don't have the means to break away to pick up a cake. I imagine they would have more business if they adjusted their times. I know I would be more able to buy their sweets with more time in the day.
4/2/2025 - I have to edit my review and knock off a star because the owner doesn't take cake orders for Monday's. It doesn't make sense to own a bakery and not do cakes on Monday. That's just poor judgement since I worked in a bakery and most of our income came from decorated cakes. Thankfully Tasty Pastry Bakery does cake orders on Mondays.

I frequent this shop a lot due to the freshness of their baked goods. On 12/05/24 around 12pm, I went through the drive through and purchased a half of dozen cupcakes. When I got home I ate one and let's just say they were horrible. The texture of the cupcake was very crumbly like a cornbread texture. It was not fresh at all. So I called the bakery today 12/0624 to tell them my issue. The girl listened and did not try to rectify in any way. She then proceeded to talk with the manager regarding my issue and his only response was they don't do refunds. It was very rude and unprofessional. Especially since I didn't ask for a refund. No apologies were given. Nothing. Needless to say I will not be wasting my hard earned money to buy those overpriced stale bake goods any longer. Buyers beware.
