My server (Mr. nice Eyebrows) made my experience here immaculate! He knew the menu like the back of his hand and was able to recommend good drinks option as well. He even went as far as bringing over a bag hook as he noticed our table getting crowded with to go bags, as we stayed back to chit chat. This man need a raise asap. He was patient, polite and thoughtful.
I will be back for Brunch, the service and the atmosphere!
Disclosure: I am Filipino American so I had some biases coming to Sunda.
If I had to describe Sunda New Asian, I would call it a “luxury experience”.
I’ve done filipino food pilgrimages and eaten elevated Filipino cuisine before at places like Jeepney in NYC and Bad Saint and Kaliwa in Washington, DC, and Sunda can be a crowd pleaser. Sunda sits in the heart of the swanky Midtown Tampa area and the atmosphere is what you would expect for that. The space is bright, open, with industrial vibes and minimalistic furniture. Hints of the asian theme are spread throughout the restaurant but the vibes do not let you forget where you are and the price of eating at such an establishment.
The food is definitely elevated compared to normal filipino fare and food is well cooked and thoughtful. Dishes featuring pork (which there are a number of) are often a blend of juicy meat and crispy exteriors. The menu does experiment here and there such as a naan-like bread that I think is rice flour based (like a filipino puto or fried rice cake) served with pork or beef sisig. Another example is what is almost a classic Halo-Halo (Sunda Sunday) with non traditional elements like blueberries and blackberries. Generally, I find the dishes to be in line with traditional filipino flavors with sprinkles of elevation or experimentation here and there. Happy that there is a niche for this type of dining and cuisine here in Tampa Bay.
The key highlight of Sunda is the exceptional service by the large amount of staff. You are serviced by a whole crew during your dining experience from your waiter, to the bussers, to those incharge of beverages, cocktails, and refills, sous chefs, and what appears to be a handful of restaurant management. The service is what transforms the experience from high-end to full on luxury. They are attentive to almost a fault - you will never have a glass empty or a dirty plate out for long. We also had the pleasure of having the sous chefs explain the Kamayan Feast (a misc. assortment of bbq, a fried pork leg, seafood, rice, fruit, etc.) items which was a treat.
This is definitely a place to go for celebrations, occasions, date nights, business dinners, etc. For those who aren’t familiar with filipino food, this could be a good place to start if you are intimidated by more traditional or mom and pop places (but definitely try mom and pop places too - FOR THE KULTURE ;)). I would say its worth a visit if you’re in Tampa.
From beginning to end this has been the most well composed experience I’ve ever had. Sarah(our server) incredible recommendations and service. The sous chef who came out(Monica) was friendly and very passionate about the food which showed. We had an amazing time and cannot wait to come back. Ayra recommended we come here and her suggestions were 10/10
Great ambiance , food and drinks were amazing , and Sarah did an excellent job serving us. Loved everything. Try the Mochi ice cream for dessert ! You’ll thank me later.
shi was fire😆😆✌️😆😭😭✌️✌️
Would rate 3.5 if I could. We went for brunch on a Sunday, 2 people. We ordered 3 dishes to share and drinks -- the sake to me roll, ube waffles with chicken, oxtail pot stickers, a sake and an ube espresso martini.
Atmosphere and service was so good, servers were helpful with recommendations, patient, efficient, and nice, loved that.
Portion sizes are so small here, especially considering everything (apps, mains, drinks) is just about $20 each or more. Even though the waitress commented that the ube waffles were a good/large portion, we left honestly feeling a little hungry still. The ube waffles had a good sauce, fresh fruit and juicy chicken, though the chicken I wish had a less sweet breading to contrast with the sweet waffles. Also wish there was more chicken for the $8 upcharge. The sushi roll was $21 but only had 6 pieces and wasn't memorable. The oxtail pot stickers, although they were really tasty and our favorite dish, only came with 4 pieces. While they had a good amount of oxtail in each bite, I have had a lot more good oxtail meat for the same price in a full dish with sides. If they really couldn't increase the amount of meat, I suggest they spread the oxtail out more across 6 pot sticker wrappings just so customers can enjoy it longer and there's more to eat with the wasabi cream and sauce (which were really good).
My ube espresso martini unfortunately also tasted burnt/not good quality and didn't have much ube flavor and I couldn't really taste the alcohol either, maybe just buried under the burnt flavor.
I don't plan to come back, but if I did I would order the oxtail pot stickers again, maybe try more savory dishes, & maybe try more of their sakes because they had a large selection. But it is unfortunately not worth the money to me, and goes into the category of Tampa restaurants that are vibey, gorgeous, nice people, but don't deliver on food for the price you pay.
TLDR; wouldn't go, some good items (oxtail pot stickers), good atmosphere, but price not worth the food/drinks you get.
Amazing restaurant! The ambiance and atmosphere is as modern as it can be. The service was outstanding as well. We felt welcomed and comfortable throughout our time there. The food is nothing short of exceptional. 10/10! The crispy rice appetizer was something special. We recommend going half and half with tuna and the wagyu. I could seriously eat 20 of those! The chicken inasal entree was one of the best meals I’ve had in a while! We will return and recommend to others.
We enjoyed several dishes, including appetizers, sushi, and some new Asian creations. While the food was good, none of the dishes stood out as exceptional. The sushi, in particular, was quite simple and lacked flavor; I could mostly taste the rice. I might consider returning to this restaurant, but it isn’t one of my favorites. On a positive note, the service was excellent!
Aaron was AMAZING!!!!!!
Amazing Atmosphere, Hospitality and Food!’
I went there last night (not by myself) everything was perfect. The bao buns are what I loved the most and the grass tiger drink! Thank you! Will definitely come back.

The food was great but the service was outstanding. Midtown is a nice spot for social gatherings.
Parking: The parking garage is a barely a 3 minute walk from Sunda.

Wagyu sticker rice -tender piece of Wagyu over burnt rice. You ever scrapped burnt rice from the bottom of the pot that’s what the Wagyu sits on top of
The tacos were really good , the fried roti paratha it’s wrapped in is a bit greasy
Drinks 10/10
Not a fan of the wasabi aioli but the panda roll was very tasty besides the aioli
Coconut cream cheese cake 10/10

What a fun place! The menu lends itself to ordering multiple items and then sharing family style. Which was great because we saw a number of things we wanted to try. We shared Pot Stickers, Cauliflower, and Pad Thai. All were delicious. We ended up having Crispy Pata as our main entree. Too full for dessert.
