Rentals available $15 a day to fish or rent a shark rake Very helpful lots of bait and tips cool tshirts and shark teeth necklaces
We really appreciated getting to try some casual fishing off the pier on vacation - our first ocean fishing experience! It was a perfect turn key solution for my son and I - rented poles and bought bait very at reasonable prices. They has the supplies we needed and a fridge of cold drinks, what more could we want! We fish lakes in the midwest, so we really appreciated talking with the guys running the shop who were really nice and gave us some pointers for ocean fishing.
We didn't catch more than a bait fish, but while we were on the pier we watched some giant sting rays go by, saw a sea turtle, had a puffer fish steal our shrimp, and got to see someone land a big Amberjack. There were also schools of Mullet and a guy was throwing a net and brought up several. So even with no big prize, it was a great time!
We took a break for lunch and some swimming with the family and they held our rented rods for us - not sure if that is normal, but it was appreciated!
The shop seems to be run by retired guys who like the atmosphere more than making a buck - it was a cool vibe. The place doesn't open early, and may not be sharp on the hours posted here, so heads up that you may want to buy bait the night before if you are serious about an early morning.
Nice fella selling shrimp. He was kind enough to give a small fishing report. Kind

This is a pretty good spot to rent a rod and try saltwater fishing, super friendly staff and a nice spot overall. If I ever comeback I would ask for a smaller hook size because most of the fish out here have smaller mouths.

Wasn't open even though it was supposed to be. I hate businesses that do this.
Small shop with lots of tee shirts and small souvenirs. Super spot to rent a rod to try out some fishing on the pier. Or, rent a rake to search for sharks teeth on the beach. They have items to enhance your day at the Venice Pier.

Suits the needs of the pier. The guy was pretty nice
Got here at 06:15. Arrogant operator of the bait shop showed up at 07:10. Me and my daughter got up early for this on the one morning we could go fishing. Wouldn't open the shop till 07:40. Eat a satchel of Richard's.
Great lil bait shop. Bait, souvenirs, rentals...everything you need for a day out on the beach.
It is a great idea, and Papa's fresh bait is great also, also the staff is great, the whole place is great
No actual experience here because I got to the pier at 6:15 wanting to get bait and tackle for a morning of fishing ended up pacing the puer for and hour and a half by the time I decided to leave at 8 someone was opening up completely ruined my planned morning of fishing on vacation
