The menu states one price but they charge you another … BEWARE. Allison is the sweetest Manager ever and offered to give me the difference from her tip jar. Of course so gave it back. She stated the prices have changed and that’s cool but spend the money and update the menu. Will not be back until they get their pricing straight

I ate dinner here with my family as we were looking for somewhere to eat on/nearby the boardwalk. At the time it was around 8pm and we were looking for somewhere to eat before watching the fireworks at Harborview. This was a problem because most restaurants closed at 9pm and their wait times were over an hour to accommodate my family. That's when I stumbled upon AJ's. When I got there, one of the staff also mentioned that "you can see the fireworks." (Disclaimer about the fireworks, I thought it was going to be a big thing but it turned out to be a 5 minute tiny fireworks display probably meant to only attract people to the boardwalk on slow days; mon/thur.)

My family sat upstairs on the bar floor for this reason, and I thought the decorations, live music, and harbor view were something way too good to complain about. On the other hand, something that did disappoint me was the food. No one told me before my family was seated that "upstairs and downstairs had different menus." I wished we could've been informed about this before we sat down, but it didn't bother me too much since we wanted to sit upstairs anyway. I decided to order the gumbo bowl and Classic Fish Sandwich. (Blackened "fish". Menu doesn't really say what kind of fish? ?‍♂️). I thought the seafood gumbo was okay, but the fish sandwich disappointed me just a little. The "fish" was seasoned fine and cooked well, but the tartar sauce described in the menu felt nonexistent. Overall, AJ's is a nice place for a bite later in the evening, but if I was in a situation where there were more restaurants open, I'd pick another restaurant with better seafood options.

Not sure what the deal was with the clientele here, but oddly, everyone stares uncomfortably. It’s the oddest thing. Even though they were super busy so we waited a good while to give our order and get our food, the waitress done a great job making sure we knew we weren’t forgotten about. The food was fabulous!! There is a smoking and non smoking area and I didn’t notice any smoke draft into the non smoking area even though the waitresses were back and forth so that was great too since we had children with us.

Our last visit in wasn't much better than the last. Not sure if it was because they were short handed had a newbie or if it was because we sat on the bar side but weren't drinking heavily, but service wasn't great. We ordered a couple of beers, some apps, then actual food. We saw the waitress for the initial order, some one else dropped off the apps and drinks at the same time, (I hate waiting 15-20 minutes for a glass of water), and then for our food. BF wanted a couple more beers than he ordered but the server wasn't any where to be found several times.
My bacon wrapped shrimp were pretty CRUNCHY, lots of burnt black spots. BF's salmon was way over done. Customer behind us, sent her back for being overdone. BF said it wasn't worth the headache of sending it back.
Food cost entirely too much to come out bad. We don't mind spending money on a good meal out but it's heart breaking when it's not done correctly and it feels like wasted money.

This is a great spot with great food. Due to the fact people can smoke inside it's not a great place for kids. They do have a non smoking side but it's a very small area so you may have to wait to sit there if you bring your kids. Other than that it's the best. Service is great food is affordable and you can play whatever music you want to hear while you eat.

Parking: Due to the fact it's a small area the park is ok but could be better.
