This was one of the most disrespectful and unprofessional pickup experiences I’ve ever had.
I came in to pick up an order and was approached by a light-skinned waiter wearing shorts who asked if my order had already been handled. Moments later, he and a tall, dark-skinned kitchen worker with dreads began talking about me loud enough for me to hear. This wasn’t a misunderstanding — it was clear, intentional, and careless.
Then a short, stumpy waitress joined in and laughed, as if mocking customers is normal behavior here.
Let me be clear: I will tolerate mistakes, delays, and confusion. What I will not tolerate is staff openly disrespecting a customer in their presence. That kind of behavior doesn’t happen by accident — it happens in places where management either doesn’t train, doesn’t care, or both.
This wasn’t just bad service; it was embarrassing, childish, and unprofessional. If this is the culture behind the counter, customers deserve to know before spending their money here.
Do better — or expect fewer customers willing to tolerate this nonsense.

It was my first time visiting the Butt Hutt and I’ll certainly be back. The service was fantastic. She was prompt, pleasant, helpful and kept my drink filled and table clean. 5/5 on service. The food was overall delicious. The pulled pork was Smokey and delicious. The mild sauce was on point. 5/5 for both the pulled pork and ribs which were so tender! The fried okra was better than expected and would certainly order again. I also ordered stewmac 2/5 score. I am not sure I would order that again, it wasn’t horrible, it just wasn’t my favorite type of Brunswick stew. The idea of the stewmac is fun though. The portions were generous. The menu was fun to read. I will be coming back!
My wife and I love BBQ. Decided to try this place while in Athens. We were seated & had our orders in quickly. Took a while for the food to come out. Noticed that some regulars who came in after us got food way quicker. The meat was cooked well enough but the BBQ is very watery and tastes of mostly vinegar. The color slaw tastes like pickles. Mediocre at best. Won't bother eating there again. There are way better choices for BBQ.

Real down home BBQ, exceptional! Brunswick Stew is worth a meal by it's self. Skins were still crackling when brought to the table. Fork tender brisket and flavor filled chopped chicken. Our waitress, Lincoln made the experience unforgettable. Her hospitality and charm made us feel like family.

🌮 Butt Hutt BBQ: Brisket & Jimmy Sauce Excellence Beyond the BBQ and What What Sandwich, the Butt Hutt also boasts great brisket, and their brisket tacos are truly special. They are absolutely elevated when you add a drizzle of Jimmy Sauce!
If you want great-tasting, flavorful wings, make sure to order the ones they call the Jimmy Sauce wings. That signature sauce is an item that will truly blow your mind—the Jimmy Sauce is undeniably something special.
Too expensive. The chicken is chewy. Also the inside feels like it’s not cooked.The lemonade is sweet. Also the bathroom was disturbing. There were flies everywhere. But the service was great but we had to wait a long time for food.
I believe this is the best barbecue in Athens and the surrounding area. I always prefer good food to polished surroundings. The atmosphere is typical of an established older roadside barbecue place serving takeout meals. All the food on the menu that I have ordered has been very good. Whoever’s doing the cooking really knows what they are doing and takes pride in feeding folks. Excellent comfort food in generous portions. I always eat in but they do a booming take out business as well. They also have a bar area with a good selection of beer. My favorite is the Butt plate with Texas toast, coleslaw and fried okra. Sometimes we share an order of the homemade potato chips which are excellent. My wife loves the sandwich instead. The chopped BBQ chicken is good, too. One of the few restaurants I know that serve real homemade banana pudding. This is the cooked custard classic like my Mom made that never saw the inside of a Jello box. Scrumptious.
