I believe this is the best barbecue in Athens and the surrounding area. I always prefer good food to polished surroundings. The atmosphere is typical of an established older roadside barbecue place serving takeout meals. All the food on the menu that I have ordered has been very good. Whoever’s doing the cooking really knows what they are doing and takes pride in feeding folks. Excellent comfort food in generous portions. I always eat in but they do a booming take out business as well. They also have a bar area with a good selection of beer. My favorite is the Butt plate with Texas toast, coleslaw and fried okra. Sometimes we share an order of the homemade potato chips which are excellent. My wife loves the sandwich instead. The chopped BBQ chicken is good, too. One of the few restaurants I know that serve real homemade banana pudding. This is the cooked custard classic like my Mom made that never saw the inside of a Jello box. Scrumptious.
The brisket and ribs are delicious. I am not big on bbq but this place is definitely an Athens staple. Their chicken muck or whatever people call it in the south is good. Simple food that matches the expectations.

I mean its always a hard time ordering over the phone I feel like I'm screaming. Then in a rush to get off the phone and won't even repeat the order. Multiple times food has been missing/wrong please fix the phone.
Wasn't a fan of their sauces. Good pulled pork and potatoe salad.

Outstanding BBQ! Easily the best I have had in the past ten years! I was here from DC visiting my son and was craving Southern BBQ (which does not exist in the DC area). This was the highest rated on the interweb and I certainly agree! I had the Buttwich sandwich (pulled pork) and my son had the Chopped Chicken sandwich. I also had the Corn Nuggets (with the What-What sauce for dipping) and he had the Mac n’ Cheese. All of it was perfect! Priscilla was also outstanding! Friendly, sweet, attentive and fast. Great service! We will DEFINITELY be coming back!

I have heard a lot of buzz about this place so I wanted to try it out. The waitress is very friendly and attentive. The food came out fast and was hot. The BBQ was good quality and very tasty. I loved that they offer vinegar based sauce which is not common in Georgia. The only issue is the fries were bland. They have a school lunch vibe. Otherwise it lived up to the hype.
