Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen

Let me preface this by saying I very rarely leave reviews. I think if there’s a problem it should always be dealt with by contacting the establishment. I worked half my life in the food and service industry and owned a restaurant so I understand mistakes can be made at any time and some things are out of the managing partner’s control. So that’s what I did the first time I had a problem at this location.

We decided to give Cheddar’s in Athens another try after a terrible visit the last time we went and were ignored after being seated for 35 minutes. We had tried getting the attention of several servers but we couldn’t get anyone to respond to us. Seriously, the servers made eye contact with us and completely ignored us. We left without being able to order anything. When we called the location, the manager apologized and said they would like to send an email to us with a meal on them. He took my email down, verified the email before hanging up. We thought wow! He is going above and beyond and we were beyond grateful. It never came.

So, we went again hoping it would turn out better this time. The server had a great disposition so it started off great. She took our drink and food order no problem. Appetizer and drinks came out timely from the kitchen but that’s when it declined. We waited about an hour to get our food even though we were only one of four tables sat in the restaurant. The cheeseburger was dry (bun was hard as a rock and the meat was dry), the soup was old and tasted like it had been heated over and over, and dessert was not heated through. Our drinks were empty and not refilled before we left even though our server came to our table several times while they were empty.

The lady seated behind us stopped the manager while she was walking around the floor to let her know she couldn’t pay the bill on the electronic table device and the manager, without stopping, said “just back out of it and it should work”. After about 20 minutes of trying to pay she flagged down a server to let her know she had tried everything and it wouldn’t let her pay. The server took care of it then.

On a good note, the server had a great disposition and the appetizers were hot and fresh. However, the wait time, the empty drinks, and the main courses left much to be desired. I always loved Cheddar’s and maybe we’ll give them another try at a later date, but not in the near future. Going out to eat is too expensive to waste it on a restaurant I can’t guarantee I’ll get what’s paid for and that the manager won’t keep their word to make it right.

Tried to order the steak and ribs combo. Was told they were out of ribs. Got the steak and shrimp instead. My two sides were mashed potatoes and fries. Got 4 shrimp the size of quarters. And the sides also seemed very underportioned. Most restaurants I go to, I struggle to finish my plate. Here, I'm left still hungry. I feel they need to re-access their portion sizes and how four little shrimp can equate to a slab of ribs. While the quality is good, the quantity is questionable. I'll pay the extra price to leave full from Chophouse next door.

Great customer service and family environment. Our party of 8 was seated with no wait on a Saturday evening. The food was freshly prepared and served piping hot. Our sever JJ provided good care of us and attending to the needs of our large group while juggling other tables.

While the service and atmosphere was pretty good, the food was just mediocre. I ordered the shrimp Pasta Alfredo - the pasta was luke warm. My husband ordered chicken fried steak which was also just mediocre in tast-nothing special. The restaurant had several people waiting with a 20 minute wait, but there were tables available. There was only one person working in the bar area who was having to take care of more than just the bar. I have been to Cheddar's before in another town, and this was not up to standards.

Ate here with my friend. Server memorized our order which is always a hoot. They gave me the smallest baked potato ever. Seriously check out the picture. Besides that it was good. Liked the fish.

I joined the waitlist and was told it was an hour wait, we arrived when our wait time was up and went to the host stand only to be told it was an extra 2 hour wait even with the waitlist. Multiple other patrons stopped us on our way out to tell us that the host told them the exact same thing. By time the extra two hours would have been up the restaurant itself would have been 30 minutes from closing. What is the point in having a waitlist and joining it if the restaurant doesn’t even bother going with it?

Made a reservation, showed up on time and was told we’d have to wait 2 hours to be seated. Thanks for ruining our night 👍

I had the meatloaf.....best I've ever had! My date had the grilled porkchops. So yummy!!!
Phenomenal service. Waitress was very attentive and polite.

Shaun was absolutely great answered all my questions I had regarding the menu was very customer friendly oriented the food was spot on it was an amazing time and when I come back I'll definitely be asking for Shaun again.

The delicious food, the very good prices, the attention was quick, the restroom clean (that is very important) first time I visit them and I am sure I will return.
