Food was amazing. Had the grouper. Cooked perfectly. Service was great. Wish there was something between 4 and 5 stars. It was better than 4 but couldn't go to 5 for three reasons: Seafood Gumbo was bland. Grouper was overpriced. And it was hard to carry on a conversation on the patio, which was crowded. However, none of which will stop me from returning.

Their food is not bad and my previous visit was better because my food took too long for how busy the place was and my fillet was very small and I made it on the same grill that the fish is made. I didn't know if it was meat or fish, the puree potatoes if it was excellent.

Have eaten here a few times. The last experience was horrible -- we waited for our food for over an hour and had come in before the rush of people. The restaurant did fill up quickly as the waiting time increased. The food is good, and our server was quick to apologize. But given the pricey food options -- I'd prefer the restaurant had its house in order.

This is one of our formerly favorite restaurant in Athens but it is unlikely we will ever go again.
I have no idea how good the food is, we arrived at Chuck's at 6:15 on Friday evening of homecoming weekend 10/4/2024 and were told that the wait would be 2 hours for 4 people. That was fine we understood it was busy on football weekends, we grabbed a table outside and a few drinks (there is no bar servers for people waiting outside) and waited our turn. At 8:15, I approached the hostess desk and was informed that it would be another 45 minutes before they could seat us. Frustrated, I went back outside where we had met another family who had been waiting almost as long as we had. They were seated about 30 minutes later, when I asked them when they had put their name on the list they told me that they had arrived at 6:45. Still waiting after 3 hours I went back to the front desk and was told that there were 8 - 10 tables ahead of us. There is a very rude brunette women with a nose ring that tried to "mansplain" why there were so many people still ahead of us, when I told her that they had seated a group that arrived after us, she became flabbergasted and sputtered and told me there was nothing she could do.
Obviously there are "favorite patrons" that get seated ahead of those coming off the street (I was told by another patron that they had been seated immediately because someone in their group knew someone). All of that is fine, but the staff at the hostess desk should have told us upfront that they were incapable of providing any kind of reasonable estimate for the wait, instead, we spent almost $200 at the bar and had to go hunt for food at another restaurant that was still servicing at 9pm. Maybe they were all new and had not worked on a busy football weekend or simply did not care about inconveniencing patrons.
I never told the front desk that we were leaving and never received a text indicating our table was ready. They clearly just took us off the list or skipped over our name.
The staff needs additional training so that they can be honest with patrons about the wait and the young women with the nose ring should not be put in a position to interact with customers, she should consider another career outside of hospitality.
Management should be embarrassed that any guest would be treated the way we were treated by the front desk "hostess" staff. Management may want to consider interacting with patrons that have been waiting more than 3 hours for a table, even to check in and apologize or offer to buy a round of drinks,
Not every weekend is a game weekend and you won't always have people lined up to eat at your restaurant. Service makes a difference both when interacting with guests waiting to be seated as well as those that were lucky enough to get a table.
Plenty of other great options in Athens, avoid Chuck's if you value your time.

Horrible… Food scored Burnt overcooked sushi. I don’t have a whole lot to say about this place, except they tried to make it right and it came back again bad. Oversalted scored Burnt not a great experience. Extremely noisy with Students from University of Georgia cannot have a pleasant mail without them, screaming with drunken slurs and behavior.

We sat at the bar and had a great night. We started out with the calamari and Brussel sprouts and then had the shrimp tempura sushi roll and the Philly sushi roll. The calamari was my favorite. Delicious! We will be back again soon!
Great service too!

It's an ok place that used to be a Greyhound bus station. It's definitely pricy for what you get. The servers are fast.

We put our name in at 5:30 and at 9, they said it would be another hour. The management nor hostesses asked tables to get up after sitting for 4 hours. We were told at 9:15 they would not be able to serve us and to go elsewhere.

We put our name in at Chucks’s at 5:30 on a game day Friday and were told our table would be ready around 9:00. At 9:30, we were told that there were still 15 parties in front of us and the kitchen closes at 10:00, so they wouldn’t be able to seat us that night. At this point all other restaurants were full and not accepting new parties. Chuck’s claimed tables that were seated at 6:00 weren’t getting up, and said if we wanted them to leave we would have to go over and ask them ourselves. Nobody apologized and we were left without dinner plans on a busy Friday night. This happened to multiple other parties. Chuck’s should not have taken more names if they couldn’t accommodate the crowd, asked lingering tables to leave, or keep the kitchen open until all parties have been served. When we told other restaurants about this behavior, they were appalled as well.

We visited as a group for a sibling’s birthday on a weekday and had a nice evening. It took quite a while to be seated as they were a bit understaffed, but received service promptly once seated. We started off with the panko chicken appetizer which we loved, especially the dipping sauce. We each had one roll for our main and while they were good, be prepared for small portions sizes. I enjoyed the tuna crunch roll, I just wish I’d had two.

Exceptional dining experience; atmosphere, service, quality and preparation of food was all outstanding and deserving of restaurant's excellent reputation...atmosphere on a Friday evening football weekend was lively and festive (as most establishments in downtown Athens)...great mix of students, parents and football fans of all ages...well worth the wait as Chuck's gets crowded early on weekends...excited to get back to share dining experience with family and friends
The problem with Chucks fish. I sat at the sushi bar tonight. I noticed one of the servers prepping plates for food. She had no gloves on. She would put a wad of pickled ginger, which i love, and place it on the plate with her bare hands. Rarely she would put on gloves. Not all the chef's wore gloves either. I didnt eat the ginger tonight. Thats how you get food poisoning. Get way to get Hepatitis A . Im a physician, this must be avoided.
So i went there a second time only to see the sushi chef use an ungloved hand to arrange my food. Why would you only glove one hand? Yes his left hand had a glove on, but not his right. Unacceptable.

Came with a colleague while she was in town on business. The food was great and we loved sitting on the patio. Our server was polite and sweet, but could have been a little more attentive. I understand that they do get pretty busy, but we were there on a Tuesday night!
