The best vegan food in Athens! Friendly, helpful staff. Loads of options. The falafel wrap is amazing, (it reminds me in the very best way of The Grit's falafel wrap). The fries are DELICIOUS. The vegan hot dog is spot on. Definitely a go to in Athens!

Hi-Lo does a lot of things right.
They have good bar food- all of the sandwiches are great, particularly the Reuben and French dips, especially when paired with the garlic parsley Parmesan fries. They also have excellent sauces- I love the horseradish mayo personally.
The salads are also well portioned and tasty- and they have quite a selection of hot dogs if that’s your thing too. The beer on draft and alcohol availability is also quality as well. An Athens staple.

I stopped in here for some To go food while staying at the hospital, it kind of liked like a bar not really an eatery and with the name lounge in the name I really was not feeling it. But I looked at the menus on line and gave it a shot . I have not eaten a lot of falafel in my life, but I like them ok and there sounded interesting, turns out they were amazing! Comes with hummus and your choice of two sauces, do your self a favor pay the extra 50 cents and get both they both rock too. I would not be shocked if I did not go back in there for more tomorrow .

For years I’ve gone back-and-forth about changing my review from three stars. The biggest problem with this place is if you’re not in their click or they don’t like you you get treated like absolute garbage. It’s amazing that a place that brags about its inclusivity treats people that they perceive to not have their same values like absolute trash. There are at least four employees at this location that will not speak to me. One of the owners who once attended my wife’s birthday parties won’t even look at me when she’s sitting two barstools down and barely acknowledges us when we speak to her. We have literally been at Hilo Since opening day and celebrated with them on their 10th anniversary. Many of the staff appreciate/like us and we love and respect them. The problem is so many of the new staff make us feel so uncomfortable and the one owner who after years of kindness now cold shoulders us… it hurts our feelings to not have a positive relationship with her anymore.
We will always love HiLo. It’s ’our spot.’ My wife and I had our first date there, I mourned my father’s death there and they even let me hang his photo on the wall so we can cheers him when we are there. I only wish that they accepted EVERYONE like they preach.
