We would have rated a 5 had they not charged a "3% employee health insurance fee". The atmosphere, food, and service is of very high quality. However, the lack of transparency about this fee is unprofessional. There was no disclosure about this fee on the menu or verbally. It was simply a surprise fee added to the bottom of our bill.Furthermore, why would a business owner pass the buck to their patrons for their employees' insurance? Why not pay for it themselves if it is that important? They are certainly charging enough for the meals to do so. For example, our bill for 2 people was $177.40, plus a 20% tip, and this is without a main course meal. The assumption that I want to pay for your employee's insurance is exceptionally petty. We did pay this outrageous fee. However, after two visits to this establishment, we ultimately decided not to return.

Absolute perfection! The service, food, drinks, tasteful decor/design choices, and ambiance all combine to make Slater's Steakhouse the perfect setting for a special celebration, impressing a business client or date, or whenever you're just craving the best steak in town. The prices match the perfection, but you absolutely get what you pay for. We found it was well worth the investment into an unforgettable meal and evening. We look forward to including Slater's into our future celebrations. (Highly recommend reservations, which are easily made online)

Delicious food. Fun and fancy atmosphere. My friends and I tried it out for the first time and it’s definitely a place we’d come back to!

The atmosphere was lovely. The service was excellent. For the cost of the food it really wasn’t cooked as ordered. I had the lamb chops and the broccolini. I ordered the lamb chops, medium rare closer to rare, and these were medium. The broccolini was very hard and crunchy. I ate hardly any of it. The beef tartare was good. The crème brûlée was good, but not great.Parking: We got lucky with our parking because there was one spot left in the parking lot. Others would’ve had to park elsewhere.

Everything was wonderful from the servers to the wine! Only negative was our steaks were slightly over from the temperature ordered. However, still super tender, juicy and delicious! Only photo I took was of the bottle of Zinfandel we drank! Excellent wine!

Wildly overpriced for mediocre food. I could have gotten this meal at Applebees. Our server was great, the cocktails were good, my steak was the wrong temperature. The menu overall is unimpressive. Dining hall was overcrowded with tables, and the atmosphere offered nothing special. Would not eat here again.

This place has the right idea. The Athens Morgan County area does not have a premier steakhouse but this is in contention. Great bearnaise, nice bar area. Only downside was the steaks were not hot when delivered to the table (we ordered four and none of them were hot). The sides are all perfect -- especially the oysters and mushrooms. Very expensive as you would expect. Oh, parking is tricky too..

I came here for my Birthday dinner with my Wife and family. Food was excellent. The waiter had an accident in which he dropped our tray of drinks on my shirt, pants, and shoes. I cleaned what I could off at the table with my napkin and the waiters cloth. When I returned from the restroom after cleaning myself more thoroughly, they had replaced everyone else's drink but mine. A quarter of my table was still wet so I had to use my wife's napkin to sit on top of it for the rest of the meal. Neither of us received a replacement napkin. The manager never came to our table to apologize for the incident. I'm just disappointed in the overall lack of customer service from the management. I frequent Nighthawk Lounge, The Expat, and The Lark. I would expect to receive better care at a higher quality restaurant.

Just spent almost $300 for my wife and I to have dinner. My medium rare lamb was delivered with two medalions well done and 1 medium well. I showed the waitress who agreed and took it to kitchen. The chef sent my food back claiming it was cooked correctly. That is first time in my life I have sent my food back and last time I will ever eat at Slaters. Skip it and save your money...

It was very dark so the menu was hard to see with very small print, flashlights were necessary. The service is very good, not just above the general level of mediocre service that abounds in Athens, but pro-level service that you would expect in high end restaurants in big cities.Cocktails were tasty, balanced and beautifully presented. The wine list is small but covers the bases. The food, though, was not exciting. The steak was cooked correctly to temperature, the sides were OK we had creamed spinach and mashed potatoes, but the pepper sauce (upcharge) was boring and did not enhance the food, in my opinion. One in our party had the crab cakes and did not enjoy the seasoning. We tried the ice cream sundae with homemade vanilla ice cream. It had a strange lemon, tart flavor that wasn't terrible, but seemed out of context. The espresso was undrinkable. The experience was not the worst restaurant experience ever, but for the price it should have been top notch all around. Also, the manager stood right by the door and did not bother to say good night or thank you as our party was leaving. He also never touched the table during service. Not even with his eyes. He could take a lesson from the servers. Won't be rushing back, will drive to the big city next time. Too bad for Athens.Parking: They have precious few spots. One is blocked off to protect their portable smoker. It is not clear where to go if you don't know 5 Points. We walked a block, city problems.

Exceptional Dinner. We visited with another couple and were ALL very happy with our selections! My Strip Steak was Flavorful, cooked to perfection, and so tender! Two others had scallops and risotto and were so pleased they wanted others to taste it. The trout was also well prepared enhancing the subtle flavor of the fish! The friendly staff is another reason to return here and their EXPAT Restaurant, across on Lumpkin!
