It's located inside of gas station ⛽. Ppl and bums hanging around daily. Pull up ppl smoking weed outside the entrance. The security guard he is no better. Young, dumb, and no need for it. It's always some bs when coming to this gas station. Go to another one if you encounter any of this situation

Parking: Pull right up
World Famous, it is fried chicken, no spices, no anything...KFC has better flavor than this chicken. Slaw was ok and the green beans ok Nothing to write home about. I think the bar keeps this place open. Go to Hattie Bs if you want out of this world fried chicken !
We have been twice in two weeks. The fried chicken is fantastic. We have eaten the fried jalapeños and the tamales plus the fried chicken and a brunch item called The Champ. Both appetizers were excellent, I would recommend either/both. The fried chicken has a light batter and skin that is some of the best I’ve ever eaten. White, dark or wings, all of it was good. The brunch item , The Champ, was a mix of eggs, smoked sausage, fried chicken and Texas toast. Not only did it look delicious, but it tasted delicious. Pricing is reasonable for both food and beer. Two chicken dinners, The Champ and a beer for $37.00.....not bad at all. They have local beer on tap and national names in cans. The atmosphere is chill and there are dollar bills all over the walls. The bills are fun to read. If you are in Athens, game day or not, you owe it to you and your family to go to this joint and eat. Five stars all the way!!!
The setting is very laid back. Lots of dfferent deco. Part of our visit was beside a very loud what appeared to be college girls. Once they left it was much more enjoyable. Food was very good.
I really wanted some fried chicken and was told to go to Champy’s. They did not disappoint! I ordered the 1/2 chicken with 2 sides. The sides were baked beans (very good) and coleslaw (simple but excellent). The slaw was so good I asked for (but did not really get) the recipe. The fried chicken was EXCELLENT! I expected a 1/2 chicken that I could eat in one sitting, but each piece was so big, I couldn’t finish it. The crust/skin was delicious, as was the chicken itself. Seriously some of the very best fried chicken I’ve ever had! If you’re in Athens, GA go to Champy’s!!
My wife and I ate here on 2/12/19 for lunch as we have many times before. When I used my Visa card they added 3 percent to our bill. When I asked the server about it she said it was a new ordinance that Clark county had passed several months ago. We ate at Hilltop Grill on 2/17/19 and asked the very nice server about this and she said she had ever heard about that and they do not charge 3 percent and that is not true what the server said to us at this place. If you want to charge 3 percent to use a credit card at least train your servers to be honest. I’ve eaten here many times over the last year but I will never be back. I wonder how many other customers have been lied to. Honesty is like integrity and this place has neither. Who know what else they do to rip off their customers. I will tell everyone I know about this farse

They’ve got tamales too. I’ve never had one. I did have the potato salad. It was good. They season the top with bbq rub. Momma used paprika to dress hers up. This idea tastes better. They fry chicken about as good or better than anyone in the lower 48. It takes a good while to do chicken this good. Wait! I’m not sure they even buy then chickens until you place your order. Be patient. The catfish is not quite as good as the fried chicken. It’s kind of like Ohio state and Alabama. They serve the chicken hot, straight out of the fryer so you have Toto wait some more or burn your mouth. Everybody that’s ever eaten here leaves with burnt lips. Good thing the iced tea is good.
Hint: Off Baxter Rd in Athens. Went on a weekday as I know it is busy on the weekends. Glad we went! We have been to other locations, and the Athens restaurant did not disappoint. The tamales are amazing and the chicken is so fresh...Really liked the baked beans. Our waitress was great.... Lots of tv's...
Made our first trip to Champy's and were impressed. The place itself has some character and feels cool and funky, but the food wins the prize. They tell you up front that chicken on the bone will take 20 minutes to cook, so if you think this is like KFC, you are way off base. It is worth the wait! The chicken came out to us hot, crispy and amazing. We ordered a three piece meal with three sides. The fries were really good, the slaw was good, but the baked beans were incredible, way better than average baked beans, more like beans and meat with sauce! We ate our meal with two drinks and paid less than $20 bucks without tip. That is also a plus! Gotta tell you, it was all really good.
Having lived in Athens for several years, Champy's was by far my favorite chicken joint while living there. I detest the idea of chain restaurant fried chicken now. They cook your chicken to order and it takes a bit to receive, and another bit to cool down, but is very fresh. The sides are excellent as well. I'm a big fan of the vibe of the joint, too. Need to make a trip to Athens to have some good grub!
My daughter and I went to Champy's before a Family Day at her sorority. The chicken at the Champy's in Athens is far better than the chicken in Chattanooga. It was juicy and cooked to perfection. The owners were very friendly and nice to talk to. I had a local beer that was delicious! I will be going back when I visit Athens again.
