This place is as authentic Italian as there is in Atlanta. I met some Italians who were from New York that told me this is the only place they come for dinner because it reminds them of the way their moms used to make dinner in Italy. The Diavola is incredible. When you're finished here you can get some gelato across the street. Same owners.

The food was decent but nothing to write home about. It was played up by several people I spoke with as fantastic. Highly overrated! The place was clean and the service was good. I give the food a B+.

I had the lobster ravioli. It was good, but not worth what it cost. The salad was boring.

Great food, a little expensive, I guess worth it. It has definitely fallen off as of late

Great food and helpful staff. BYOB policy is also a plus.

The service and overall setup was weird. You have to come up to the counter and chose ur food from a menu on the wall and then at the same time it’s first come first serve seating which was not indicated to us by the clerk who told us originally to wait on the side until a table opens up. And then one did and we came back in line, chose our food and paid and when we went to go sit at our table the woman behind us in line placed her bag on the table before we got a chance to sit and the clerk told us she can’t say anything lol. It’s just a weird way you do things BUT the food was really really great and portions are great as well!Parking: Parking kind of weird but do-able

We were welcomed to Gio's by a lively young man seated behind the counter when we arrived. He asked if we needed any help, which we clearly did, and he explained the menu with which he was very familiar and helped my wife and daughter choose their meals. We ordered the caprese salad (appetizer) as my wife's main, a spaghetti and meatballs meal for my daughter, and a chicken parmigiana for myself. You order at the counter then sit with a table marker where your food will be delivered. The pasta dishes came with a house salad which was pretty basic but with a nice vinaigrette. The mains were delivered, it took a bit longer than expected, but not an exceptionally long time, and looked correct. The caprese was wonderful and I was happy to help my wife with it. Great flavor on the mozzarella, and good balance of balsamic and olive oil. The spaghetti and meatballs was also delicious and I enjoyed finishing off a couple bites of meatball from my daughters plate as well. My own chicken parm was good but not amazing. The sauce was great, but chicken was just a bit over cooked. I'm sure it's hard to get the chicken that thin and also still juicy. I wish it was served with a linguini noodle too, instead of spaghetti noodles, but I guess that's just a personal preference... I'm not sure if it's an option, but I'll ask the next time we go. Overall it was good food, good service, good atmosphere. Prices were a bit higher than expected, but in the heart of downtown just a couple blocks from GA Tech, it's probably to be expected. We'll likely go there again, but I doubt it will become a regular spot... however if you're considering it, it's definitely worth trying out.
