Minuscule portions at high prices. Left brutally hungry after paying $100+/person. The concept was also confusing. More like a slow trickle of dishes offered to you, with little enthusiasm or competition amongst chefs; who all seemed to be making the dishes together. At least dim sum or a good competition will offer multiple dishes at once. Ambiance was weird, long shared picnic tables with benches. Dishes were mostly good but fleeting. Dishes turned away were then served to other tables? Our last dish was a small assortment of (now cold) pork pieces for $32/plate.

This restaurant offers a unique dining experience where the service is pleasantly uncommon. When the food is ready, it comes to you. You don’t order what you want on the menu; the chefs bring their dishes to you when they are ready. The ingredients are unique and the meals are newly imagined masterpieces. This is food in its most creative form. The service was amazing and the chefs and servers were attentive and knowledgeable. This was such a special experience and I will be coming back. This place is for the bold and risky eaters. There is something for everyone, but I would urge you to consider how much you would try before choosing this place as it is pricey. So fun to go with other people for a fun, new dining experience.

What a fantastic dinner experience, one of the top 5 I’ve ever had. The concept is so unique - basically a dim sum style build your own tasting menu, where different chefs brings their food creations and you say yes or no.

The space is open, bright, and laid back.
The staff were incredibly helpful. A special shout out to Nate the bartender who told us the stories of how he created the Collard drink (including a taste test of Ethiopian spices, butter & collards!)

The food was eccentric to say the least, menu changes every few weeks, our favorites were a chicken liver mouse app and a shrimp gumbo dish, but we even had sea urchin ice cream (I wish we had photos, but we were too busy eating!)

The chefs took a picture with our party at the end of the night since we closed down the restaurant. Expect to spend here, but every $ is worth it!

This was my first experience where chefs came to my table and presented their dish- IT WAS WONDERFUL. I said yes to almost everything and paid almost $140 with tip. My mocktail was good too. This dining experience was totally worth it if you want more than just to eat. Thank you Gunshow staff and chefs!

My experience was pretty mixed. The wait staff was kind, and the food we tried was good, but I wasn’t blown away for the price. I went because I had a gift card and was excited for a special night out.

What brought the experience down for me was how uncomfortable I felt saying no to certain dishes. It wasn’t clear beforehand that dining here meant saying yes to most, if not all, of the offerings, and a couple of the chefs made it feel like we were letting them down by declining.

One example: after we had already said no to a chef’s previous dish, he marked his next dish as a “yes” on our menu before we had accepted and said “thanks” in a way that felt very passive aggressive, like he was upset we’d passed on his last one. Another time, when I turned down a dish at the end of the night because we were very full, a different chef said something along the lines of, “Are you really not going to do this deal with me?” Both moments made the experience feel pressured and uncomfortable rather than enjoyable, which is disappointing when you’re still walking out with a check over $275.

For the price point, I don’t think guests should feel guilty or “less than” for not ordering more. If the expectation is that you say yes to most dishes or hit a certain spend, I think it would be helpful to clearly communicate that upfront or set a dish minimum so people know what they’re committing to before booking. Overall, I just wish I had known what to expect before going.

Wanted to like it, but across 8+ dishes I didn’t like a single one. Undercooked beets that crunched like an apple, overly sweet wine & cocktails, and a myriad of service flaws. This, along with the atmosphere, are more suited to a mid-level dining experience…not a $300+/couple dinner. Fun concept, poor execution.

After living here for seven years, I can confidently say that Gunshow is THE most creative dining experience in the city — a decade‑old “classic” that reinvents itself every time you visit.

Located in the vibrant Glenwood Park neighborhood, everything about Gunshow is bold, experimental, and interactive.

1. The concept is bold and interactive: chefs in t-shirts walk up to you, introduce their signature dish, and you decide whether you want it or not.

2. The environment is more like a dining hall than a fine-dining restaurant: guests sit together next to and across from each other along several long tables.

3. They end the experience on a high note. After each group finishes their meal, if you would like, the whole squad will ring a metal bell and gather together with you to take a Polaroid photo in front of the signature Gunshow letters and the iconic open kitchen.

We ordered the following to be shared for the evening:
🍈 cantaloupe — vodka, cantaloupe, pink peppercorn, lemon, bubbles
🦪 admiral oyster, bear creek beef, hay
🐟 bramlett trout, chanterelle, whey
🐚 sapelo island clam, hickory hill potato, nc trout roe
🦀 dungeness crab, carolina gold, benton’s bacon
🥩 dry-aged bear creek ribeye, sauce périgueux, eggplant
🌱 moore summer squash, banana pepper, pineapple mint
🌽 arrivato ossetra caviar, bradford corn, 5n egg yolk
🍌 warm old-fashioned banana pudding

A few dishes stood out:
The ribeye paired with onions and eggplants, served with preserved beauty berries was my favorite by far; the pickled eggplant and berries paired beautifully with the smoky, tender dry-aged ribeye.

I didn’t expect the summer squash to a showstopper — the citrusy and freshness brought by the banana pepper and pineapple mint from complemented well with the summer squash grilled over embers.

The egg omelette filled with Dungeness crab was the most creative dish on the menu, but it was overly salty, overshadowing the richness and umami flavors from the crab, butter, and bacon dashi.

Chef Kevin Gillespie and Chef Cody Chassar are the masterminds behind Gunshow, which opened in 2013. Gunshow celebrates seasonality and local ingredients, sourcing from farms like Bear Creek Farm, Moore Farms, and Sapelo Island. The menu changes regularly, with dishes that are fresh, surprising, and deeply inventive. The name Gunshow is a tribute to Gillespie's family and the time he spent with his father going to actual, literal gunshows.

Gunshow is less a dining hall and more an elaborate theatre, one where food plays the reluctant understudy to spectacle.

They charge, mind you, not merely for sustenance but for art. Alas, one’s purse grows lighter whilst one’s stomach remains in tragic suspense often times. I departed the place not unlike a man who has attended a sermon, spiritually stirred, but bodily unfed.

It is, in all fairness, an experiment and an expensive one, akin to those alchemists who turn gold into confusion. There is, I daresay, an air of European pretension about the whole affair, as though the roast quail had studied abroad and returned unbearably cultured.

Reservations are scarce, of course, for scarcity is the new seasoning. It lends the place an aura of exclusivity, much like a velvet rope before an empty ballroom. I have dined upon finer fare and sipped more honest wine, yet I find myself oddly amused.

For truly, no one visits Gunshow in pursuit of mere nourishment. Nay, one goes to witness the grand performance of modern appetite: where hunger and vanity duel with silver forks and the only casualty is one’s wallet.

Tragic, delicious folly!

Such a fun concept! Reading the menu we were unsure what sounded good but then the chefs come by and explain their dishes and you gotta have it. One recommended saving the crab omelette to eat with the steak course and we were not disappointed! I think we only passed on one dish the entire night. Creative cocktails, great food and a fun atmosphere. Definitely check this place out!

Big disappointment for me and my wife. We had a party of 4 with 4 drinks total and the bill with tip was $426. The total wasn't the problem. My issue is the protion size. Virtually all dishes are single bite size for 2 people. The Ribeye for $35 was 5 bites maybe. I appreciate the adventurous concept, but we all left still hungry. I will admit the banana pudding dessert was terrific.

The concept just isn't for me. I hated it. And transparently, didn't know what I was getting into going into it.

The food was meh. Nothing incredible. The service was slow. I didn't like sitting at the chef's table because I kept having to turn to the left to talk to my friend. And I left feeling like I'd had a bunch of bites of things rather than a meal. If the ribeye is going to be minuscule at least give a girl some bread!!!

Not for me, but, hey, maybe it's for you.

I will give Gunshow a a solid 3.5 food was delicious dont get me wrong, smaller plates but i felt like the 9 or 10 course meal or whatever it was was just tiny portions. Everything kinda felt gimicky to be honest, the old fashioned was not bad. Service was great as well, all in all i think for value for money it was meh, but glad i went.
