I had a fantastic night for my first time visiting Johnny’s Hideaway!! I’m disappointed to see some of the more negative reviews, I can’t say I experienced anything unpleasant, but I can’t deny it may happen to others. I’d still recommend Johnny’s for a fun night out dancing to some classics and watching people have a great time; the drinks were nice and strong, the set was bumpin, and the disco ball was shining! The women’s bathroom stalls are a little on the small side but they were fairly clean even later in the night. We don’t get food, but I’ll definitely be back to try some.

It’s disappointing to experience this in the heart of Atlanta, a city known for its diversity and culture. I’m surprised this place has lasted as long…actually, I’m not. The past few months have shown just how alive and persistent racism still is.

Fun place foe mature adults to party. Music from 50s to 80s, great diverse and friendly crowd. Cougars.

The rudest dance floor i have very been to. You are fighting everyone just to stand in your own little bubble. I've been to plenty of crowded dance floors before but this is the by far the most terrible one. No one respects their space and its a constant battle to not be shoved every which way. They need to either cap their numbers way more or have a bigger dance floor.

Multiple of my white friends have spoken up for me about how they treat me or spoken about how they treat brown & black people at this bar ! I have multiple witnesses
If you are brown or black & respectful and love to have a good time beware of this bar , it may not happen on your first encounter or your second or even your third but they eventually will definitely try you, disrespect you or over police you, as well as people who look like you ! The staff here and are very rude ! Again Multiple of my white friends have spoken up ! Ive literally had drinks that were paid for Thrown out immediately after we paid for our tab and we weren't even drunk just because we went to dance floor for a second to dance, Im an Observant person! They purposely ignore “certain” people when they are trying to order, the security circles around people of color of the dance floor ! when entering They lie on the pricing then when you get to the counter to get in they change the pricing ! A lot of sexual assault happens here thats been noticed ! and even assault from security guards many people have spoken against them for this as well ! The bathrooms are unclean as well as the kitchen! Only a certain kind of people are featured on the screens here ! This is the most rude place I’ve been to in atlanta ! Very upsetting they do not value their customers even after they supported them Countless times ! Ive seen them even lie on people due to disagreements and if there is a police on duty here best believe they will take the staffs side even if they assault you or throw you out over false claims because of a disagreement with the staff or anything!

bouncer comes and kicks all four of us out?

why not just serve the patrons you overserved a glass of water

honestly I still dont get why you were all so cruel to her

i used to think this place had old school character

When I first came to Johnny’s Hideaway, I honestly loved it. I had a great time and left thinking it was definitely a place I’d come back to. Unfortunately, every visit after that was a completely different experience.

At first, I gave the benefit of the doubt. I know bars get crowded, bartenders get overwhelmed, and off nights happen. I assumed maybe it was just bad timing. But after multiple visits, it became clear that this wasn’t a one-time thing.

I want to be clear that my issue is not with the door staff. Every time I’ve come, the people checking IDs and charging admission have been welcoming, polite, and professional. I’ve always been greeted and told to have a good time.

My complaint is specifically about the bartenders.

The first bartender I had an issue with was a Black male bartender at the main bar. I want to note that this was my very first interaction with him — there had been no previous issues, no prior interactions, and no reason for there to be any built-up tension.

During that visit, I was sitting at the bar talking to a regular who frequently orders from him. The bartender completely refused to serve me and would only acknowledge the man I was talking to. He would not communicate with me directly, wouldn’t take my order, and even refused to give me water when I asked — the man had to order everything for me. When drinks were served, the attitude was very noticeable, like he was annoyed that he had to serve me at all.

At the time, I brushed it off and assumed he was overwhelmed because the bar was packed.

However, the next time I came back, I had another negative interaction with him. I sat at the end of the bar where he was serving, and he was short and rude with me. He told me someone was sitting in the seat I was in, even though the man standing next to me — someone I didn’t know — told me no one had been there for at least an hour. I moved anyway, and from the other bar I could clearly see that no one sat there the entire time. It felt like he simply didn’t want to serve me.

Hoping for a better experience, I moved to another bar. Unfortunately, that bartender — a tall white female with her hair pulled back in a ponytail — was also dismissive. I ordered food but when I tried to order drinks, I tried to get her attention and she continuously ignored me to the point where is was impossible she couldn’t see or hear me. The moment two men (one in each side of me—who didn’t know each other) called her over, she acknowledged them immediately, and her demeanor toward them was completely different than it was toward me. It genuinely felt like she didn’t want to serve me or wanted me to leave.

At that point I didn’t even bother to eat my food, I boxed it up and moved away from the bar. I came to have a good time, and the bar experience was making that difficult. My friend and I went to the dance floor, danced, met some great people, and ended up enjoying that part of the night.

I don’t know what that was about, but I do know it wasn’t about tipping — I tipped well over 20% every single time.

This was my third or fourth visit, and unfortunately the experiences were consistently unpleasant. That’s disappointing because Johnny’s has a lot going for it: good music, great dancing, affordable drinks, decent food, and it feels like a safe place to go out. I genuinely had a great time my first visit, which is why I kept giving it chances.

Unfortunately, the customer service at the bar was poor enough that I won’t be returning. I wanted to share my experience because this place could be great, but the way I was treated made it very discouraging.

Music was a lot of fun, but this place was so packed on a Saturday that the waitresses couldn't keep up. There is no way that it below any safety fire code, people were literally packed in like sardines and God forbid there was ever an emergency that would require people to get out safely. Will not be going back on a weekend night.
