We're big fans of One Eared Stag so we were looking forward to trying Mary Hoopa's. Unfortunately the visit was a major disappointment, mostly because of service issues. Our starter came quickly because it was a cold dish and didn't need cooking, but then we waited and waited and waited. The waitress apologized twice and finally brought us our side dishes so that we at least had something to eat. After an eternity she brought my main course, which I had almost finished when they finally brought my wife's main course. While we were going through this ordeal we watched another couple come in and walk out 30 minutes later due to lack of service (and they gave someone on the staff an earful on the way out.) The problem was quite simple. The restaurant was only about half full, but they were prioritizing take out orders ahead of people sitting in the restaurant. Personally I think this is unacceptable. Unfortunately the food was just average. If it had been amazing we would give them another chance. Too bad.

First time but definitely not our last. I’m not a deep fried anything fan but loved all of the vegetable sides. Nice servers and good cocktails made the evening swell.

Been to One Eared Stag before and was recommended to try out their new restaurant for their famous fried chicken at Mary Hoops’s. Amazing food, not just fried chicken, we also had dirty rice, mac and cheese and oysters. Service on point, very attentive staff. Will definitely go again!

Since I had the fried chicken at the One Ear Stag in Inman Park I had always hoped they would open a separate restaurant. And they did. The fried chicken is a must and the Brussel sprouts are amazing (a bit on the saltier side). The decor is inviting and the staff friendly. And very convenient to get to with plenty of parking behind the restaurant

Went for a Saturday lunch. An odd menu, the sides are primarily breakfast foods, but the chicken comes 3 ways, traditional, hot, and sweet. Hot and sweet are basically sauces added to the chicken. I had traditional, my wife hot. Neither of us were that impressed. The chicken breast was deboned, so it was kind of a big chicken tender. The crust was good, but not spectacular. We had grits as a side, they were excellent. It isn't that the food is horrible, there are just so many better places for fried chicken in ATL--Mary Macs, Colonade, Gus's, Busy Bee, Revival--I just don't see why I'd go back.

If you want to get violently sick like I did after eating the chicken and waffle because the chicken was undercooked. Then this is the restaurant for you. Bon appetit. I will never dine here again.

I recently visited Mary Hoopa's House of Fried Chicken with a large group. The service was very slow but the worst part was the price of the food. I had a half a chicken and that alone was priced at $18 before tax and tip. This price was only for the chicken and did not include a side or a soft drink. I added a side of mac and cheese for $8. After adding a drink, my bill was way over $30 with tax and tip included. I do not think any fried chicken is worth that kind of price. I also did not find the chicken itself to be anything special. This was a very expensive meal with little to no satisfaction. There are better/cheaper options for fried chicken in Atlanta.

Just good plain fried chicken is the best here!! Especially when you want to feed 2 or more people! Customer Service is also excellent here!!!

I went with a large group for Sunday dinner. Based on other reviews my expectations weren't very high with respect to the service. It was a little better than anticipated but it was definitely slow. My real disappointment came with respect to the amount of food I received. I paid $22 ($28 after tax and tip) for two pieces of catfish and a corn and jalapeño salad. I left hungry. That's just not acceptable. On a positive note, the fish was cooked perfectly and the salad was wonderfully spicy. I didn't order a cocktail or dessert as both menus were fairly limited. It wasn't a bad experience overall but I wouldn't make any effort to return.

Chicken is amazing! And they craft mix drinks right in front of you.

An expensive but reasonably tasty meal. To folks who live here, I would say: give it a shot. To folks from out of town (kind if the point of TA), I'd say: Go next door to Poor Hendrix which is great!- but also often full. If Poor Hendrix is full, head to downtown Decatur for options.

We met our daughter here as she lives in the area and had wanted to try it. First impression? Loud. I know that "If it's too loud, you're too old" but I simply do not like to shout to be heard, nor hear other people's conversations. Personal preference, so it's "trendy" I suppose. (Quieter near the bar area on way to restrooms). Food was good. $1 an oyster during "happy hour" of which we got 18. They'll bring Horseradish and saltine crackers if you like yours a little hotter. No appetizers otherwise and we ordered 3 entrees, 4 glasses of wine, 1 dessert (Chocolate taco) and 1 happy hour bubbly. The server was attentive and they help each other if yours is busy - Not hovering/helicopter servers which I like, but you never wait long for service. Good meal, a different atmosphere most would find 'trendy' and good service. A bit pricey at $132 but I suppose the atmosphere and the neighborhood support it. I'd dine there again in the quieter area on 'occasion' - too pricey to be a regular thing considering there are no sides included etc.

Polenta with bacon and collard greens. Rolls with honey butter and hot chicken! All good! Oyster happy hour too.

The hot fried chicken is tasty but, it won't set off any fire alarms.
