The food and staff are great. I hate that they don’t get on the delivery platforms like Doordash or Grubhub often. The prices are great! I would order more if I could order online.

I was a little worried when. We were the only diners there, but it was only 5. Service was great and food was delicious, only complaint was that they were out of sweet potato pie.

This was my first time here. I didn’t like that the menu had one prices and when you order it was another price. Please update the menu prices ASAP. Or train your front register person to let ppl know the menu has not been updated. And provide those prices when be very helpful.

The BBQ kalebone - made from wheat gluten, like seitan - was tasty and hearty, though the texture was good (a little rubbery) but not great. The collard greens, sweet potatoes, and cornbread were good, too. Very generous portions and friendly, attentive service. And the menu says everything is vegan, yay, despite the “vegetarian” in the restaurant’s name. Wish the water weren’t served in styrofoam cups. Updated from previous review on 2025-03-19

I was horrified when the dense brick they called “cornbread” came out, and I knew it was going to be all downhill after that. The cornbread seemed to be made with nothing other than cornmeal and water. The macaroni and cheese had over cooked noodles, with a sauce that was confusingly sweet. The collard greens were cooked decently but flavorless. The kalebone sauce was the only redeeming part of this meal, but was served cold on top of the kalebone (which I’m assuming was just a piece of boiled seitan. It was very chewy.) The cold sauce made me think that the entire meal was just reheated from premade items. I grew up in the south and have had vegan versions of all of these dishes before. I don’t know how this restaurant missed the mark so badly on such soul food staples.

When i opened my BBQ cauliflower, it was literally screaming at me “PLEASEEE SAVE ME IM DROWNING IN HERE” because it was literally aggressively doused in atleast 100 layers of BBQ sauce. I’m like??? Where is the cauli??? The flower??? What’s going on. I only came here for the cornbread, and it genuinely thought i needed dentures after the fact. Not sure if it was swapped out for one of the bricks used to make the building. I’m gonna try again, but this neighborhood continues to disappoint …

I’m writing this review because I absolutely LOVE Soul Veg for its mac & cheese and greens. However, I was really disappointed with my recent experience. On Sunday, I went to get a plate and ended up paying $30, which was way higher than expected. They had a menu posted with more reasonable prices, so I was shocked when I got to the register and saw the total. When I asked the server about it, I learned that the higher prices were for weekend pricing, which wasn’t clearly marked. To make it more frustrating, I had even asked about my options when choosing the lasagna, greens, and mac, and there was no mention of different pricing. I feel this lack of transparency is unfair to customers. Soul Veg, please be upfront with your pricing!

chicken fried steak seitan with herby gravy, mac and cheese, collards, potato salad, and bbq seitan kalebone, all vegan. the collards were plain and the cornbread dry but everything else good. there is a heavy use of cashews or nutritional yeast or something that makes the food taste different than what it’s imitating yet it’s delicious.
i gave 4 stars because the dining area is very casual and should be nicer considering the price, and they do not serve tap water, only out of single use plastic water bottles. i prefer the west end location better which is the OG and you can actually walk up to the counter and see the food when placing your order.

After discovering this place in 2022 I’ve been coming when in the area. The kalebone is delicious, try to country baked steak next time it has a rich gravy on top that brings a perfect balance. I always get the Mac and cheese and collard greens on the side. This place has never done me wrong.
