We had to stop after reading so much about The Varsity. It’s all about experiencing what the restaurant is. The food is just ok, and the service is good. We had fun and would probably try it again when visiting Atlanta.
It was fascinating to see how this huge place operates. Always making ahead what people will want--to make it a fast experience. We had bacon burger (dry), chili cheese dog (needing more flavor), peach hand pie, chocolate shake and fries. All ready in just a few minutes. The onion rings and chocolate shake were very good. The peach pie was a fried delight. Be sure to have in mind what you want when you step up to the counter to order!
airport location- slow service, The burger is flat, dry with just meat and cheese, fries limp and greasy. Plus I was sad to see that the person taking payment, touching the register, etc. with gloves on also turns around and wraps up the burgers in the wax paper after handling the items out front. The gloves are for what????
Diner atmosphere with basic menu choices of hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken nuggets. A la crate and combo meals available including a very limited kids menu. Lines move fast so be on your toes!! Clean bathrooms too with plenty of lot parking
What's with all these negative reviews? Probably written by uninformed Yankees. The Chile dogs, the fried pies, the onion rings, the French fries can't be beaten. All of these are made fresh by scratch daily. Nothing from frozen. And the frosted orange is pretty good!
That one spot in every city where you get the best greasy burgers and fries to satisfy your junk food craving. The varsity is an Atlanta Icon. Been going here for years when Im in town.
I have been here before, but wanted to come back based on the person that was with me. I noticed when I returned, the drive up was no longer an option. I wonder if this was due to the crime in the area or another reason. This time around, the place was busy, but not busy like people standing outside the door. Bacon Double Cheeseburger, Onion Rings, a soda and peach pie was slightly over $15. I will come back again.
I was told the lines were long and you best know what you want. When I walked in….there was no one in line. I was shocked. I got the chili cheese slaw dog (bun less because you know of course I have a wheat allergy), fries, the frosted orange, and a cherry coke (because why not?). The employees were shocked when I asked questions….because maybe she didn’t get a lot of travelers in there. As someone who has never step foot in here, it was a bit confusing but I figured it out. Overall I didn’t mind the food one bit…I only wish I had ordered more before leaving.
Just tried a burger from The Varsity. What kind of Luby’s monstrosity was that?? One bite…in the trash. ?️ ? unseasoned, hard bun, just all around disappointing. Never again.
At the Atlanta Airport, avoid this place (Concourse F). The staff is rude, they completely messed up our order, couldn't even print a receipt for the credit to correct their errors, and the food was awful. Their french fries were so greasy they were inedible! I would go hungry before eating at "The Varsity" again!

Love the Varsity, been going since I was a kid, my parents would go on dates to the Varsity. If you’re not from the surrounding areas then you won’t understand why it’s so loved. A lot of history, memories and good times have been had at this restaurant. For those who just don’t get it, you never will. I do miss hearing the older gentleman who use to yell “what’ll have” as you approached the counties to place your order. Their onion rings are the best, with chili dogs and hot dogs. Don’t forget the orange frosty! Make sure you grab a Varsity hat before leaving. This is one of my favorite Atlanta icons and has been since I was little.
Really fun restaurant. Takes you back to an earlier time. Burgers, fries, onion rings and shakes, it has it all. Fun staff and enormous seating area.
This place was recommended from an experience perspective rather than for its food and that pretty well sums it up. Food is not great at all, but it’s a place which seems to be iconic and held close by many, so I’ve tried it and glad I did, but wouldn’t go again
An Atlanta icon. Since moving away many years ago. This was the first time back in over ten years. Very little has changed other than the choice of channels in the tv rooms. It will never get a Michelin Star. But it’s an institution that represents everything that’s great about Atlanta.
Various dogs and burgers. Simple food and low cost. Shakes were good. This is definitely not fine dining but the food is good. Varsity Hot Dog has a rich history. And knowing the history gives you a greater appreciation of the place. Georgia Tech is down the street. Miss having those behind the counter yelling “Whata U Hav” That was a nostalgic touch. Ate a hot dog with chili and cheese onion rings, pie and a shake. Could have eaten another dog.
