My friend and I recently visited and had a frustrating experience with the service. At the bar, we pointed to the only Syrah that we saw available on the menu ($56) and clearly said we wanted the bottle. After we were seated, the bartender came to our table holding two bottles (not sure why she would even present two bottles when we pointed to the one we wanted) and asked if we wanted the one available by the glass or if we wanted to do the bottle. We reiterated what we had already said at the bar which was that we wanted the bottle.

The way it was presented made it seem like the second bottle she was holding was simply the bottle option, not that it was an entirely different wine from the one we had pointed to on the menu. When the bill arrived, we were charged $82. I politely mentioned to our server that we had ordered the $56 bottle.

Instead of acknowledging that there may have been a miscommunication, the bartender immediately came to our table defensive and argumentative, insisting that we ordered the other bottle and going back and forth with us at the table. The price difference wasn’t the issue and miscommunications happen. What made the situation disappointing was the lack of accountability and the confrontational approach rather than simply addressing it with good customer service.

Unfortunately, interactions like that make it difficult to feel comfortable returning or even trust in an establishment.

Unfortunately, my friend and I had an unpleasant experience tonight. We have been to Commune multiple times before, have had wonderful nights there but this time was highly disappointing. We were asked after being there for about an hour to get up and move mid-conversation because “a party of 6 made reservations.” My friend and I looked at each other with a look of confusion because we also made reservations too. We expressed that with the waitress (fair complexion, glasses, tattoos and brown hair), but it was dismissed. It felt super unfair and as if we weren’t cared for. I will not be coming back.

I have visited Commune many times and up until today I’ve had great experiences. Today the service was absolutely awful! My friend made us a reservation for two, when we got there we were seated by a server who was fair skinned with brown hair, glasses, and tattoos. While my friend and I are mid-conversation this same server comes and tells us she wants to reseat us because she has other parties of 3 coming in and “they have reservations”. We didn’t want to move to the table she suggested because we also made a reservation as well. Why do they take precedence over us, when she is the one who seated us in this exact spot? So she moves us and guess what, the rest of the time we were there, she never seated anyone at our former table. It was completely unnecessary and rude. We left shortly after being moved. Honestly I would not return.

My favorite local hidden gem! Everything on their small menu is outstanding, and their service is immaculate with lovely drinks and a cozy, romantic environment.

Love having a wine bar and listening room in the neighborhood. It’s become a regular spot because the food is always incredible (don’t skip the cheesecake) and the music is always vibey. The wide range of DJ’s and genre’s makes it feel new and exciting every time we pop in.

I’ve worked in the restaurant industry, and it’s made me a patient patron over the years. I have empathy for servers and the work they do. We’re always polite, and we always tip well. Any other behavior towards restaurant staff is unthinkable. They’re servers, not servants. I can also tell when an establishment has a condescending and apathetic disdain for people that don’t fit into their ideal customer mold, whatever that is. I made reservations for my wife and I at Commune this past Saturday night at 8pm. I thought it looked like a cool concept and the pictures were stunning. We arrived on time and were seated at a cozy corner table by the hostess. Good music, comfy seating, and low lighting. We were ready for a good night. The place was maybe 2/3 full and not hectic. Once we got settled it’s like a wall materialized around us. The server, a young woman in tan overalls, looked at us and kept walking. No nod, no hello, no nothing. The server, the hostess, and even the bartender all walked back and forth in front of us constantly and other than an occasional side-eye it was like we didn’t exist. There’s an Anthony Bourdain quote that says (roughly), “If you’re treated like garbage in the first few minutes, it’s a preview of what you’re in for regarding your dining experience”. My wife and I knew something was off but we decided to give it a moment. Keep in mind that this place is tiny. There’s no way the server didn’t see us. After 15 minutes of zero acknowledgment, my wife and I agreed we’d give the server one more shot. If she came over to us, we’d stay. If she ignored us, we’d leave. She walked by our table staring straight ahead for the sixth time, and that was it. We got up quietly and left. In hindsight, I didn’t see anyone with actual food in front of them. The women at the table next to us only had water glasses. In fact, the only people I saw with drinks in hand were an Instagram Posse at the bar. They were taking pictures of themselves and having a ball.
Commune is all style, zero substance. If you’re charging $18 for a glass of wine you should at least fake a smile and take down an order. Not only are we never going back, we’re telling our friends to avoid it as well. This place is a joke.

Nice venue with fantastic music. As a listening room, I really appreciated the quality of the sound. Excellent musicians with a great atmosphere.

Thoroughly enjoyed our cocktail hours and tapas extravaganza — primarily thanks to their DJ Jae Magiq!! Oysters, pate, good wine and smooth drum n bass with some vintage throwbacks? A millennials dream. First time back and we cannot wait to return

I went in on a crowded night to see Chris Devoe perform a rare live set. It was just me, and Joe made me feel very welcome at the bar. The cornmeal cake was a total knockout— thank you for the lovely experience! It can be tough to get good service as solo diner… the atmosphere is thoughtful, attractive and equipped with dynamic sound you can really feel!! 10/10 will dine again

We arrived wanting to love Commune. The concept/space is fab, Atlanta sorely needs a listening bar with a curated music experience. We didn’t find it here though, the execution and customer experience fell flat from start to finish.

Service was essentially nonexistent. We were seated in a booth right next to the bar and yet it was like the servers were actively avoiding eye contact. We eventually had to flag down our server to get her attention.

Of the dishes we tried, the “green beans” (cannellini beans with pesto) and focaccia were the clear standout. The hibiscus blood orange tea was lovely. Everything else was forgettable and underwhelming for the price point.

We came specifically for a particular DJ and to hear specific genres of music, and what we found instead was a playlist over speakers. It would’ve been fine had expectations for something completely different not been set from the start.

Right now, Commune feels like another high-gloss low-care spot chasing aesthetics over substance. Which was a major bummer because the raw ingredients for something special are here.

NEVER AGAIN

My friend and I were very excited to visit your establishment to enjoy good wine, food, and conversation. We had also learned that there was an event for a punk rock photographer that evening, which added to our anticipation.

While we were having a lovely time catching up—and even meeting new people—we were abruptly told to leave because there were reservations that needed to be accommodated. This was extremely disappointing. Had we been informed in advance that the event would limit table availability, we would have made a different decision and certainly would not have ordered a full bottle of wine and several dishes.

I live only five minutes away and had been looking forward to making this one of my regular spots, but after this experience, I’m deeply disappointed by how we were treated. I hope you’ll take this feedback seriously, as no guest should be made to feel unwelcome in such a manner

Commune is my favorite spot in Atlanta, period. I've been visiting regularly for about a year and a half, and there is no better atmosphere/vibe in the city. The music is always fantastic, and is always at a perfect conversation volume. The food changes almost every time I visit, keeping things fresh, and if I don't like something, it's gone by the next time. I've never had a bad drink here; the wine selection is perfect. It's a little bit of a spend, but absolutely worth it. The live performances are also always wonderful, too. If you're not afraid of eating by yourself, it's a great place to do so. The people I've talked to while sitting at the bar have always been lovely. Great date night spot too. Sincerely, this place is perfect.

Just saw the Jeff Buckley documentary. This place takes audio quality seriously! Staff was great. As an audio professional, I’m always aware of room acoustics and this place nailed it!

Our experience at this establishment was very disappointing, and responses to reviews demonstrate the passive aggressiveness and entitlement of the employees here. The ambiance was beautiful and the food and wine were quite good. But the attitudes my party received from the wait staff unfortunately completely overshadowed this.

We are 22 year old college students who were looking for an elevated experience for my friend‘s birthday. At Commune we were ridiculed for not being familiar with wine and not treated with the respect you’d expect as paying customers. Wait staff first made a passive aggressive comment about something we didn’t know, then told us to “Google it” when we wanted to learn. I can understand frustrations from the staff if a group is rowdy or rude. However, our whole party was polite, light-hearted, and respectful throughout the strange interactions we had with the staff, yet did not receive the same grace in return.

The suggestion in the owner‘s now-deleted response to one of my other party members’ review that a group of 6 people would drive an hour outside of Atlanta to a wine bar to use fake IDs is ridiculous. What is even more insane is that if we were underage, they are admitting to serving us regardless. You can see that the owner is clearly enabling toxicity if you scroll down to some of their snarky responses to other reviews. I would absolutely not recommend visiting if you want the friendly service you’d expect at this price point and style of bar.
