Virgil's Gullah Kitchen & Bar Conyers

I stopped in based off TikTok and Insta Reels. So glad I did. I had a blast. The vibe was everything. Miko was my server and she was so interactive. She made recommendations. I listened. I enjoyed. This was my first time but definitely not my last.

If you’re from the south, you won’t like any of the breakfast food here. The shrimp tasted and smelled spoiled. The grits tasted just nasty, the breading for the fried chicken isn’t good and the mac and cheese tasted horrible and I usually eat anybody Mac and cheese but this is the first time I never finished it. My wife is Trini so I’m use to Carribean altered southern dishes but their Gullah take on American southern breakfast is just terrible. My wife and I just threw it all away. The waffles were decent at best. I’m disappointed because I have been wanting for this place to open on the uber eats app for months. Will never go again. Food looks pretty but taste so bad.

Came here on a whim but I've been seeing their ads on here and elsewhere. This little street is adorable. Parking outside is free and it's a very historical area with many small businesses. My plate came as pictured with hot sauce and gullahgal sauce on the side. Mac and chicken were yummy, collard greens needed some oomph. Drink was just OK to me and could've been stronger imo. Server Ashley was sweet and helpful. My only critique would be that she didn't check on me mid meal to see how things were. That seems to be a dying art these days. The place is small, has a full bar, it's darkly lit and intimate with background tunes playing. Seems like a couple of tables are outside for al fresco dining. I'd definitely come back to try something else.

The Food was good. Inside wasn't crowded. And that area had the perfect photo spot with the umbrellas.

Met some friends for lunch, and the parking was definitely a challenge. Ashley was our server, and before she offered suggestions based on top selling items, she gave us the House Rules:
1. Virgil's is a cash only establishment
2. no substitutions
3. everything can be done a-la-cart
.....(i think there were more, but these stuck out)

Gullah Eggrolls - Two (cut length wise) filled with shrimp, cabbage, and redrice. came with a chili-aoli dipping sauce. ⅘

Fried Pork chop platter - half the table ordered this and they kept talking about the flavor and seasoning

I had the Slammin Samin - came with a fried shrimp and oyster garnish, a bowl of white rice, and curry skillet corn. Supriseing only⁸⁸

Poor Service. Totally overlooked because we're not dinning in. No recognition to us at all. Made us move because a group of White people came in. Very Small, and crowded. No manners. People an staff where rude to Family.
It's okay I shouldn't even rated a star but it won't let me submit without one.
Racist I guess because I don't look all the way Black.

Like I said we changed our minds based on your poor service. Your not a part of the community I grew up there. This place is new an over priced. Me an my wife got both a plate with no drinks an it was $40 dollar so you tell me what is upholding about that. If the manager took my order they would've made better judgement on the customers walking in the door. We're sat because we wanted to dine an then seeing how horrible we were responding too, we diverted too to -go. Then was told to move to front to order. Then still didn't attend to us until 15 mins later. Miss me with that BS. I ordered the Jack wings w/ fries. Wedges were hard in middle, chicken not cooked thoroughly soggy on inside like not thawed out properly to cook. Like I said it was all based on Appearance. If we looked like celebrities or something maybe a different result. We sat at the bar waiting to order still, they asked the person two places down from us did they need anything ?, even though they've already been served an was conversating with someone already........then someone else asked us did we need anything after we was told to go up front to order. Get ya shit together. Usually don't do this but..... Sometimes people need to hear about themselves

First of all my friend is from new Orleans oyster were over cooked secondary you tell us two hour window , ok get that thirdly was bartender/ waitress take 45 minutes of the two hour window to take out order . That is not fair . Thirdly my friend Mac and cheese cold ass ice . Thirdly no apologies .

This place was soooo amazing! Ridge helped me out during my visit, and he was superb! Calm, and helpful. Nice smile. Very warm. So the food: I started with the happy hour wings. They were sooooo good and hot and fresh. Second, I had the tomatoes. Omg. These were Devine. Hot fresh and flavorful. The corn on top made it special. I smashed these. Next up was the pork chop basket. Pork chop was cool. It wasn’t as good as the wings, but they were fresh. Fries are too big. They should choose a different fry to serve with the basket. Maybe a skinny or home cut fry. Fried corn was next. Kinda sweet. They added too much sugar. But still, southern style, decent. I had the red rice. It was old. Let me be honest. It was about 2 days old. Let’s be real. The sausage that was in the rice had turned bad. I told Ridge, and he acknowledged it, but still had me pay for something that was bad quality. No big deal money wise, but integrity wise, that was questionable. Then, I had the fried okra. It needed to be cut with a knife or just deep throated whole. It was meh. The manager when I can was kinda micromanagy. Lady manager. Friday night. She was really nice to me, but Patrons don’t like to hear you correct your staff about every little thing. Also, there was this thing with a customer about water. They don’t offer tap water. Only sparkling or still. I get it. Especially with the bio lab fire that just happened. Could contaminate the water. But the customer next to me was insistent on a glass of tap water. The lady manager was kinda loud and slightly rude about it while Ridge just tried ignoring the customer and the water request all together. She never got water btw. She wasn’t paying, and they wasn’t budging. I’ll be back, man. This place has amazing food and a cool vibe.

Food over all was good except the greens need to be seasoned better. The restroom was disgusting needed attention desperately. Quaint place and service was good.

The customer service was great. Our waitress was Tee and she did a excellent job explaining things to us. The food was great and I will be going back again and again.

Marie was so attentive and amazing!and Fatima was so nice!!! Don and omar cooked our food and them chicken wings were delishh!!

We had a party size of 12 and they were able to seat us right away. Staff was amazing and our waiter Jesus did a GREAT job! Very attentive and handle the party with care. We had 5 kids with us too. Definitely will return.
