Anyone who’s ever driven down Hwy 300 through Warwick knows—you only stop if the police pull you over.
Lucky for me, they already had someone else pulled over, so I finally did something I’d never done: I stopped at Red Dawg Grill.
Now, I’ve seen this place countless times over the years. The building? Real unassuming. But if you’re from the South, you know—that’s usually where the magic happens.
Soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the sweetest cashier I’ve ever encountered—Casey. Genuinely kind, patient, and warm. She gave us time to review the very extensive menu. Ribs and shrimp were sold out (which helped narrow things down), so I kept it simple:
Bacon cheeseburger, all the way, no onions. Side of okra.
The food came out quicker than expected. The cook actually brought it to the second pickup window himself and even stopped to make small talk. Already, it felt like home.
I couldn’t wait—I popped open that white styrofoam box before I even left. First thing I saw?
Fried hard okra.
Now, I didn’t even ask for it that way, but when I said, “Casey, y’all knew to fry the okra hard?” she laughed and said,
“Girl, in these woods, everybody wants the okra fried hard!”
They had me at the okra.
The burger? Premade patty, but I wasn’t mad at it. Seasoned to perfection. I even opened it up and saw black pepper specks—so you know they cared. The mayo-to-pickle-to-cheese ratio? On point. Every bite was just right.
At some point, even the Warwick PD must’ve decided to take a break from pulling folks over… because they came in for a bite, too.
And that’s when I smiled and thought to myself—
even these guys know… if you’re gonna get pulled into something in Warwick, let it be the food.

Stopped today while I was on my lunch break from delivering mail and I can say it was the best cheese burger I’ve had in a while! Customer service was great also! I would honestly recommend removing the plastic so people will know you’re actually open!!!! 🩷

Do yourself a favor and don't pass up this little roadside barbecue place!! The burgers and pulled pork are absolutely amazing, and the baked beans and mac & cheese are as well!
Making my way home and decided to stop for lunch. Well my mama taught me when you see a roadside barbecue stand in the middle of nowhere.. you stop. And when I tell you guys this place did not disappoint!! Hands-down best barbecue I’ve ever had! Best ribs, best sauce, best potato salad best, baked beans, best sweet tea. Even the bread was somehow special. This could seriously be a destination place just for their barbecue!!… and yes, you should get some of the banana pudding too!!
