A Scenic Escape for a Casual Meal in Dahlonega

After a few days of camping at Amicalola Falls, we were ready for a change of scenery and cuisine. The Hideaway Restaurant, located about a 20-minute drive away, seemed like a promising option. The journey itself is a highlight, winding through the beautiful North Georgia mountains and setting a relaxing tone for the evening.

Ambiance and Service

The restaurant is part of a larger resort complex that appears to host corporate meetings and events, giving the area a secluded, retreat-like feel. Inside, the restaurant's decor is pleasant and casual—not overly fancy, but clean and fitting for its mountainside location.

What truly stood out was the service. The staff was exceptionally friendly and genuinely helpful, patiently guiding us through the menu and offering recommendations. Their warm hospitality made us feel welcome right away.

A Look at the Food

Our meal was a mixed experience, with some decent dishes and a few that missed the mark for our party.

Appetizer: We started with the Brussels sprouts. While we appreciated the attempt at a bold flavor, they were a bit too sour for our personal taste.
Main Courses: The Chicken Sandwich was a solid choice—a satisfying and straightforward classic. The accompanying fries, however, were just average. My kids ordered the pasta, which they found to be a little too oily for their liking, though the flavor was otherwise agreeable.
Dessert: We had high hopes for the Banana Pudding, but it was unfortunately the low point of the meal. The texture was inconsistent, suggesting it was both under and overcooked in different spots. Ironically, the simple scoop of ice cream served alongside it was the most enjoyable part of the dessert.

Final Thoughts

The Hideaway Restaurant offers a decent meal in a beautiful and convenient location, especially for those staying at nearby state parks like Amicalola. The friendly service and scenic setting are definite pluses.

However, it's best to visit with measured expectations. While some menu items are perfectly enjoyable, others might not consistently hit the mark. Think of it as a reliable spot for a casual bite rather than a destination for a gourmet culinary experience. If you're in the area and looking for a comfortable place to eat with a lovely view, it's worth considering.

I found this restaurant on Maps. I read a couple of reviews, but I decided to go. Let's start with the location. The restaurant is beautiful and there's no plastic chairs or furniture which I appreciate. It's a family-friendly restaurant. Today is May 10th, so there wasn't a menu, just a buffet. The cost was $108 for two people. About the price... Believe it or not... The taste of the food covers the price (amazing). But the service was very slow, and the buffet line was 25-30 minutes long to get your plate. At first, we were told that a lot of staff called out... Which I have observed latent even in fast food restaurants. But... Maybe for mother's days... They should plan it better. Well.... Let's be happy and honestly Thank God I can spend 108 dollars on a buffet for two adults xD

This is very convenient to our house so that's a plus, had heard a lot about it but hadn't been there so thought we would try it for our anniversary. Atmosphere is charming but in desperate need of updating and renovating. The service was good but both of our dinners were extremely overcooked and pretty inedible. I had to send mine back and the replacement was slightly better but not by much. It was pretty disappointing but we will try it again and hope for better next time.

Made reservations for Thanksgiving Lunch. Buffet style. Food was good but they ran out of turkey and dressing. Did I mention it was reservation only. Took 20 minutes to get turkey and another 20 minutes for the stuffing. Normally I like to eat my turkey and dressing with the sides. Just very bad preparations for a Buffet style meal with reservations. Was not worth the $50+tip. A disappointment for sure.

So we happened upon this place after being at Amicalola Falls. At first I didn't know what to make of it, but it turned out to be a very romantic surprise. When we walked in, we told the server 2 and she escorted us to this back room called the secret garden! It was just a place for couples! I thought that was a really cool thing to do! Our server was a boss; she had the entire room and didn't miss a step. The food was very delicious and you definitely got your moneys worth. The portion sizes were not small. I ordered the chicken tenders. So good a crispy and the fried chicken. We didn't know how we felt about the jalapeño gravy..best to put it on the side. Don't forget about the pretzel and beer cheese!😋. Next time we come we have got to try the Salmon and the ribeye steak.

The food is first class in both taste and presentation. We ordered the Grilled Meatloaf and Alfredo with Chicken and Penne. Both dishes were incredible. Then our dessert was apple strudel with ice cream. If someone had told us that the chef was from New York City and just wanted to live in northern hills of Georgia, I’d believe them.

Wheelchair accessibility: It was wheel chair accessible.

Really good food. A little pricey but that’s to be expected in a place that’s out of the way like this.

We stopped at this restaurant because we saw the menu online and the prices were reasonable and it says $10-$20 per person. Y’all that was a lie. The prices on the menu online were not the same as the menu in person. You may as well add $10 to what you see listed. We walked into the waiting area and looked into the dining area and the carpeting was held together with duck tape. The health rating is also an 86. We sat down at the table, but ended up leaving because the prices were too expensive for the environment we were in.
