Adam at the reservation desk called me when I canceled my reservation that I booked through Expedia. He wanted to make sure that we really did mean to cancel our reservation. We told him yes we did. He just wanted to make sure that it wasn't an accident. He didn't have to do that for us. We love the Smith House and it is literally in downtown Dahlonaga and their restaraunt is delicious! We have stayed here in the past amd we will again in the future. It's a historical destination. Thank you Adam!
Pleasantly surprised. The rooms were nice and clean (a little on the small side). The location is perfect, it's right downtown and the city has done a very good job of making things walkable. There's plenty to see and do.
This hotel looks like brand new. The interior and rooms look like they were recently built. The grounds and tidy and super clean, and the staff is very friendly. Overall a beautiful place right next to the downtown area. Highly recommend it.
I had my brothers rehearsal dinner here before his wedding and Faith and the others did a fantastic job of keeping everyone in great spirits and made sure to check up on us often, its my first time in Georgia and the hospitality here was outstanding.
The staff is super friendly & accommodating. The food is amazing. Such variety. The rooms are clean & spacious., beds are comfy. Very close to downtown. Free parking. Beautiful place to stay.
We stayed at Villa 124 on a Friday night and had a great check-in experience—the man working the front desk was friendly and helpful. The villa itself was spotless, the bed very comfortable, and the space just right for a weekend trip. The location is amazing—right off the square, which makes it easy to walk to shops and restaurants
That said, there were some major drawbacks. The washer was extremely loud, and the dryer didn’t work at all. Even more disappointing was the customer service at checkout. I called to ask if we could leave our car in the villa’s large parking lot for a couple of hours while we grabbed breakfast and explored town. The woman who answered was dismissive, unhelpful, and said we couldn’t because “guests check in at noon.” This was not only untrue (check-in isn’t until 3:00), but when we later drove by after visiting a winery, the parking lot was completely empty.
To make matters worse, when I asked where she suggested we park instead (since it was our first time visiting), she didn’t know and mumbled, “maybe somewhere on the square.” That kind of response is unacceptable for hospitality. Allowing guests a little flexibility with parking is such an easy way to leave a positive impression—unfortunately, the old-school mentality here does the opposite.
On top of that, while the location is convenient, it is also very loud at night with traffic driving by the square. Ear plugs would have been helpful, but this is something future guests should know ahead of time.
Between the broken appliances, nighttime noise, and the poor customer service, I won’t be returning. The villa itself has potential, but the management needs to rethink how to treat guests if they want repeat business.
We stayed in the Smith House Lodge (the new section of the Inn) for the weekend. The staff is very courteous and gave great instructions upon checking in. The hotel room was very nice, new, comfortable, large and had a nice large balcony. I would recommend this hotel for a nice stay but if you want to get some sleep, which I would I assume is very important to most, you may not! The sound proofing is horrible! We heard every single foot step from the room above when they rose at 6AM on Sunday morning, that went on for a LONG time. We heard every door closing around us (as they slam shut automatically when it closes). Unbelievable that a new hotel would not be built with better sound proofing. Beware.
My parents and I went to The Smith House for lunch today, Friday, September 5. We had the most delightful experience. We arrived around 11:20 had easy access to handicapped parking and went in. A very sweet girl helped me enter the information for the free restaurant parking, took my money for the restaurant ($70 for 3 adults, plus tip which you could put on your card or leave at the table) and helped us navigate the handicapped lift to get downstairs to the restaurant.
Downstairs we admired the nickel plated cash register from Dayton Ohio before walking into the restaurant.
We had no wait for seating as we were the first people there. We had the nicest server who explained our options and took our order.
You get everything on the menu but they ask what fried chicken pieces you want, do you want collard greens, and drink order.
We had fried chicken (wings and thighs as requested), country fried steak (2nd meat choice of the day), black eyed peas (bean/vegetable of the day), mashed potatoes, brown gravy, fried okra, creamed corn, yeast rolls/corn bread, squash relish (so delicious we bought a jar from the atore). The food was plentiful, hot, and delicious. We had sweet tea, 1/2 and 1/2 tea, and lemonade. Our glasses were kept full and our wonderful server kept a good check on us as the place was starting to fill up. She reminded us to save room for the strawberry shortcake. We told her to only bring us two servings as we were pretty full from lunch. The strawberry shortcake servings were just right. Not the enormous $12 desserts from some places, just a nice bowl with good cake, strawberries and some nice whipped cream.
She also brought us two to go boxes which we filled with the leftovers. I didn’t get the name of our server but she was clearly invested in making sure everyone was full and happy. A very lovely outing.
The restrooms were clean and well stocked. The gift store was small but had cute things. I’m looking forward to wearing my new earrings tomorrow. This was just a day trip for us from Kennesaw to Dahlonega. Very nice! Thanks to everyone who make our meal special.
Great lace basement goldmine
We hosted our son's rehearsal dinner outside on the veranda. It was absolutely perfect! The service, the food, the set up were all phenomenal. The staff handled everything, and with such kindness. Everything from table setting to dessert it was all handled and took a lot off stress off the planning for such a big event.
Thank you to Mariah, Frieda, and Rose! It was a pleasure to work with you all!

Great food!
I have been to this restaurant many times over 40+ years. My last visit was just months ago. One thing I always appreciated was they would bring you more of whatever you wanted until you were done eating. We were there on Labor Day and paid $132 including tip for 4 people. After eating 1 piece of chicken and a small serving of some sides, most everything was out. We asked for additional chicken and a couple sides. We were told the price no longer includes additional servings. This must have changed in the last year because my wife and I were there months ago.
I believe they should have let us know this changed up front for one. I also never would have eaten at the Smith House if I'd known it was $26 per person for 1 piece of chicken and a small amount of sides. Felt like I got ripped off.
Dillard House is a bit further, but it will be my new destination for country cooking.
we stopped for dinner when we got to town and was not disappointed. food was excellent, staff was excellent and very attentive. our drinks never went below half and food was plentiful. Definitely recommend
