Last night we wanted something out of the ordinary for supper. We went to Merle’s BBQ. We share all our meals which sometimes brings up some challenges. We got a Big Boy Cheese Burger, cut in 1/2, with lettuce, mayo & mustard on the side plus 10 wings. Our order came out quickly, prepared exactly correct and tasted great. I was a bit surprised how busy the young lady that served us was, she was handling drive thru, dine in and carry out orders, all at the same time. She was friendly, welcoming, attentive, got every detail absolutely correct and seemed as if she was excited we came in to eat with her. Even with it being a bit of a drive from East Paulding, we will return more often. — eating dinner at Merle's southren bbq.

Been coming here for years and have watched the quality of service and food go down for months now. People waiting on food people lined up to.pick.up.food and all the girls do is answer phones and argue. The bbq is still good but not ribs, and they were my favorite. Merle you need to fix this.

I just experienced the absolute worst customer service I have ever had in my entire life. Ordered a pick up order online… Rib sandwich, onion rings, sweet tea, and a salad which was $29.
Here is the problem, my son brings it home and I bite into the sandwich or tried. Literally I could not take a bite due to the hardness and it being overcooked. I received fries not onion rings which was cold. I also did not receive the sweet tea.
My wife called and spoke to SHAYLEE which I have no idea why a business would have her representing them. My wife explained the situation and here was SHAYLEE’S response.
That was my bad, I overcooked the sandwich, we are out of onion rings and just assumed fries would be fine, and just forgot about the sweet tea.
My wife politely said, can we come back and substitute a cheeseburger or bbq sandwich which is $5 cheaper then get brunswick stew for the side. She literally said nope, I can make you another rib sandwich and you can not have stew, I gave you fries. Here’s the kicker, Shaylee said you can come pick up your sandwich in 45 minutes and that’s the best I can do. This is after we requested a manager or owner.

I ordered take out from the online menu. 10 oz Sirloin Chop steak - comes with sautéed onions and mushrooms (does not state option but comes with)
I get home sit down to eat and I have a plain chop steak. The response I was given was well we only put it on if people request it. I did respond that doesn’t make any sense. “comes with it” is in the description. She did say they could make it and I can come get it however we are sitting down to eat with the family. That is in no way convenient. At this point I’m ready to move on because I am aware I’m declining going back to pick up the left off item. But what follows blows my mind. Well next time you come in we can give you free sautéed mushrooms and onions but that will not include the chop steak. I’m hoping a manager would have handled this situation differently.

The pork was cold and served from a Styrofoam cup. The BBQ sauce in store bought jars tastes better.
The fries were frozen crinkle-cuts that were old, cold and stale.
The coleslaw was a cool mixture of cabbage and sugar water that smelled and tasted vaguely of my great-grandmother's trash can.
The banana pudding was okay but the portion was slightly larger than a snack pack.
A total could not be given to me over the phone before I ordered. The cashier couldn't or was unwilling to split the bill in half to be paid by two separate sources.
In general, I feel like my hunger was not so much satisfied as it was completely replaced by a deep feeling of rage at the very idea that I paid money to eat this poorly prepared trash that is being passed off as food. I use to eat here all the time and it had its good (and less good) moments but this was the final one. I wouldn't eat here again if they were giving it away for free. There's bad and then there's this place. They ought to be ashamed of themselves on every level. A pox on thee.

Worst service in a long time. We ordered online and still waited over an hour to be told it still wasn’t ready. All the workers could say was that our order was next and that they can’t refund the money because it was ordered online. When we tried to call, they said for us to order online. We’ve gone to Merle’s for the last 20 years and the service and response to bad service was the absolute worst. The manager told us we could come back tomorrow and get something comparable or she’d give us pork plates, which was not what we ordered. They stated they can’t do refunds because we ordered online. Just poor response and no follow thru. Don’t recommend this place or the people who work there.
I ordered 2 gallons of stew and was told that the cost was 52.00 a gallon. When I went to pay for the stew they added a catering fee that they never mentioned when I called to get the price. When I questioned Emily about this charge she was rude and wanted to know if I just wanted to cancel my order! To top it off at the end of the transaction she wanted to know if I wanted to tip. I figure she can take it out of the catering fee! I will never do business at this place again!

Ordered $45 worth of food to pick up, waited 20 minutes while my order sat at the window…while the what appeared to be teenage girls tried to take orders and make the food. I finally got my order and left and when I got home, my husband’s order didn’t have the 2 sides that he paid for and the rest of the food was blah. I never leave a bad review, but dang Merle’s….do better. Won’t be eating there again.
