Friendly and helpful staff. Some of the items could have been restored a little bit more than being left half finished
Great experience!! Lots to see and staff was super friendly! We will be back for sure!
Amazing place to visit especially if you love History. There will maintain you can actually Interact From back in that time..
We spent several days going down the east coast visiting forts while going to our destination spot. This fort was one of my family's favorite!! So much to do and see, very interactive and informative! Beautiful flowers and grounds kept nicely trimmed.
Peaceful & Serene.
Fort King George State Historic Site – A Hidden Gem in Darien
I and my spouse finally made it to Fort King George after missing it on our last trip to Darien—and it was absolutely worth the wait! This reconstructed 18th-century British outpost offers a fascinating glimpse into colonial history, beautifully nestled along the Altamaha River.
Before starting your self-guided tour, be sure to watch the short film at the Visitor Information Center—it sets the stage with rich historical context. The fort itself includes a blockhouse, barracks, and officers’ quarters, all thoughtfully recreated. We spent over two hours exploring the grounds, soaking in both the stories and the serene marsh views.
Perfect for nature and history lovers like us, the site was quiet during our visit, making it a peaceful and reflective experience. The entry fee is very reasonable, and the staff were welcoming and informative.
August Travel Tip: Bring insect repellent! The summer heat and humidity can attract mosquitoes, especially near the marsh trails and also carry umbrella
Bring your own lighter. Lady working the front was really caring when I was scared. My first tick bite. Avoid the guy, he’s not a hero. Also, the tick is actually a type that carries disease. You were wrong tweezer guy.
The best thing no one has heard of.
A neat little park and a lesson in local history, sadly a little run down but still interesting to see.
Thank you to Doreen and Alan for making the experience a breeze. Worth the visit!

Nice, quiet place. Would recommend.
We visited this place on Memorial Day and had it almost to ourselves. Little piece of history)
A very nicely recreated 18th century wooden fort. Beautiful location with lots of interesting structures to explore. One of my favorite places to visit when I lived in the area.
I was here on the 10th of May and the Flys were horrendous. The fort is very interesting but couldn't enjoy it or see everything because of the flys.
Interesting little museum, AC felt wonderful. Nice shaded nature trail. The short walk to the Fort isn't shady so the heat & humidity hits hard. Then the biting flies start attacking aka deer flies. Your pace will quicken lol. Great history stop. We enjoyed it.
