Not sure why this place has such low reviews… this was one of the best KBbq spots we’ve had! Food was delicious and service was excellent as well, not sure if the menu specified automatic gratuity for two (If not is should definitely be added) but we personally wasn’t bothered by it because of how good the food and service was… and to keep in mind this place closes at 3AM and helps with the staff and workers being happy with keeping this place running this late. will definitely be coming back next time we’re in Duluth!

I visited E.M. Bop today, and while I’ve been here several times before, always loving the food and usually the service. I felt I needed to speak up about today’s experience. The female servers (all except one) looked visibly miserable and acted irritated over simple requests. It genuinely felt like it was an inconvenience for them to do their jobs.
I brought my family with me because I always rave about this place and wanted them to enjoy it too for their first time. Unfortunately, the service today completely ruined the experience for all of us. The food was great as always, but the attitude and lack of basic hospitality overshadowed everything.
I’m honestly not sure if I’ll be returning after this. Management, please address this as it seems to be a repeating pattern according to recent reviews. This isn’t the standard I’ve come to expect nor rave about.

I rate 2 stars because both two times I come the server’s attitude is really bad. First time I come, a man come and serve for us but he is so rude. However, the food is really good and that’s only the reason to come back the second time. The same situation is continue and even they set a table near the restroom for us. I can understand maybe the tables are full but they need to let me know. I think they discriminated the Asian people because I and my friend are new here so the English is not really good.

First Timers - EM Bop Korean BBQ had a grand opening banner above their entrance that caught our eye. We were met inside by Ranney who was very friendly and explained to us the menu choices. We felt very welcome. He directed us to our table. Josh, our server, welcomed us again, asked us about drinks and told us about the complementary appetizers placed at our table. There were all good and a great way to start our meal. He then gave us some time to look over the menu. When he returned he took our order. We decided on Korean Style Seafood Pancake and Beef Bulgogi. Both were excellent choices. The pancake was cut like a pizza, light and flavorful. The bulgogi was served with a side of rice. The beef was tender, cooked with scallions and onions. The portion sizes were ample. We were full and satisfied at the end of our meal. The prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity. The location has convenient parking, handicap parking spaces, very clean and adorned with a contempory Korean design vibe. We will definitely be back to try the all you can eat menu option.

We’ve been loyal E.M. Bop fans for years, and the main reason we kept coming back was the service. We used to rave about this place to everyone we knew. Unfortunately, that’s clearly not the same E.M. Bop anymore.
Tonight, my husband (Black) and I (Hispanic) actually enjoyed the food more than ever but the moment the check came, the entire experience soured. A 15% automatic gratuity was added to our bill… for a party of TWO. Their own fine print states gratuity is automatically applied to parties of 6+. So why was it added to us?
The problem wasn’t the money. We always tip 25% or more. The problem was the assumption. Someone decided we weren’t going to tip and took it upon themselves to add it anyway. That felt blatantly prejudicial, borderline racist and absolutely unacceptable.
It’s especially ironic to sit there watching K-pop videos on the screens with artists heavily influenced by Black culture, while customers of color are treated like they need to be preemptively charged a tip.
We’ve supported this restaurant for years, but this experience changed how we see the place entirely. There’s no excuse for what happened, and we won’t be returning. Management can decide whether they want to fix this for the sake of future customers but our trust is gone.
