Wow! A truly unexpected hidden gem in Duluth! Everything about this place was awesome. When you walk in, it’s like stepping back in time to your cute Grandmother’s house. It’s nostalgic! We were greeted instantly by several employees, all with genuine smiles. My husband and I had our two year old son with us, and everyone was so kind to him! A few employees came over and entertained him, made him smile. So helpful when he was having a mini meltdown. I noticed too, such a family atmosphere. Everyone that worked there was smiling and laughing, chatting with every customer, knowing many by name. It was undeniable, you could feel the strong family atmosphere. I haven’t seen anything like that in years. True family like service. This blew me away! And the food was super tasty! I was impressed. Like I said, everything about our visit was great. Can’t wait to come back. Again I just want to mention how incredible the service was. Truly unexpected and wonderful.

Southern breakfast has its own vibes which this place certainly lacks seriously. A sample bowl of grit on the side with an added price doesn’t make your breakfast to be called a southern styled , served at a family restaurant . In the veggie omelette you don’t just throw few pieces of chopped onion, tomato and green pepper. And on top of that you should have the option to put the tip for the people who serve you, not to be collected by the manager.

Had a very good breakfast with eggs, ham steak, grits and toast with a pancake at the end. Big breakfast!

I’m a dive devotee who grades on a curve (check my bio!), so I strutted into Family Restaurant ready to sing praises for its small-town, Mom & Pop soul. The cluttered, clean, discombobulated vibe? A total time warp, like I’m back in an Army mess hall, chowing down with my old platoon. Nostalgia overload! (sob) But oh, this dive didn’t quite steal my heart, and I’m bawling into my grits. (cry)
The highs: Service was friendly - bless their hearts - and the food hit the table hot. Grits? Creamy, dreamy, a Southern hug in a bowl. The biscuit? Fresh-baked glory - until I spotted that gloopy blob of hydrogenated margarine impersonating butter. Rude! (cry) The omelette? Flat, overcooked, and tasting like sadness itself. Country fried steak? Meh, clearly pre-frozen, with gravy that screamed “I came from a packet!” No coffee refills, and the check came from a server who wasn’t even mine - ouch, my heart. (cry)
I skipped the all-you-can-eat buffet (piled high with proteins, veggies, and starches), as it looked like a potluck I didn’t RSVP to. But I get it: a hungry, hardworking crowd could feast like kings on a budget here. This place has divey charm, and I wanted to love it like a bad rom-com. But when the menu food flops this hard, even my dive-loving curve can’t give it a standing ovation. The nostalgia’s there, but the flavors ghosted me. (cry)
Still, I see Family Restaurant’s working-class swagger. That buffet, packed with affordable eats, is a lifeline for budget-conscious diners and hardworking locals needing a no-frills gut-fill. It’s not fancy, but it’s got heart - unlike that margarine. (sniffle)

I haven't been here in a while, however they still have that same family feel and great breakfast just like a few years ago.
I ordered the number 3 with two blueberry pancakes, scrambled eggs with cheese and bacon. The pancakes were darker than I like but still good.
I will definitely keep this breakfast spot on my list.
Looks like they also serve lunch with a few lunch specials at a great price.
There's plenty of parking outside.

Hole in the wall local restaurant with lots of local regulars. Buffet food was good but at 12:30 looked like it had been in the serving pans a while.
