Don't buy food from this place!! It is dangerous and has absolutely terrible customer service. Please read about my experience and avoid this restaurant at all costs!!

I've been a consistent customer of The African Grill Restaurant, making large catering food orders for over a year with no problems, until a very recent incident which is now going to lead to litigation.

Sometime in November, I ordered a half tray of Beans, half tray of Beef Stew, and half tray Jollof Rice costing over $200. This was a regular order for me. I had some of the beans that night and put the rest in the freezer. I found the beans very nice, and even gave feedback to the restaurant when i went back to order more food at a later date.

However, on December 1st 2025, I decided to have the beans again and took it out of the freezer to thaw and warm up in the microwave. As I started eating it, I bit on a very large stone and broke my tooth. Now anyone who is familiar with Nigerian cooked beans wouldn't be surprised to find stones in it.

Although that shouldn't be acceptable in a restaurant, the actual problem was the size of the stone. It was quite large, and it seemed unbelievable that it was missed in the preparation process.

Notwithstanding, I decided to call the restaurant and let them know what happened. All I wanted was an apology and some empathy, but what I encountered shocked me. I requested to speak to a woman who I was familiar with in the restaurant. I believe she was either the owner or a manager there. She came on the phone and I explained what happened to her.

She recognized who I was on the phone, and she immediately started screaming at me, saying why would i call her about food that I bought a month ago? She asked if I would do that to an American restaurant? I couldn't even get a word out. She continued berating me on the phone, saying i should never call her restaurant again, and she was going to block my number. Then she hung up.

I tried to call back, but the system kept sending my number to voicemail. It seemed she had blocked my number as she threatened. The sad thing was, all i wanted was an apology and an acknowledgement of the mistake, but i will now be pursuing a legal recompense for my broken tooth.

This isn't Nigeria where you treat your valued customers like trash and have no regard for them.

The food would’ve been nice if it wasn’t being over killed with pepper. I have lived in nigeria and grew up in the states and even the food there is not hot like this. The only thing that wasn’t filled with hot pepper was the plantain. If you want to drain your sinuses you can find that place loyal to help you. We had the beans and plantain and eforiro with rice and fish. Omo my stomach was burning afterwards. This is America , at least make it mild. There’s a way you will pepper food and no one can even taste the flavor of the food and that’s how the food was. The eforiro had IRU (fermented locus beans) in it- if you cook with that you know that it adds lot of flavor to food. But for where? You can’t Taste it bc the pepper is consuming it. Please learn how to adapt to what is enjoyable. Just because you’re Yoruba and you cook with ulcer producing pepper doesn’t mean you need to do that overall in your business where you service different ppl. For Gods sake. I asked the server if there was anything mild and she’s like “no” she said it matter of fact. Never again. I can cook let me stay in my house. But she won’t change. She will keep cooking like that (the owner) bc Nigerians can’t adjust with where they are. She probably doesn’t even read her own business reviews/ replies to them. Mschew.

I am in the area for a yearly event I attend and realized that I never left my review for when I ate here last year. I almost never leave reviews for restaurants and it happened about a year ago, but I want to warn others. The overall flavor of food was okay (why I give it 2 stars), but a main part of it was inedible. I had seen a couple reviews saying that their meat was chewy, but I assumed that these people were exaggerating about a tough cut of meat. Unfortunately, they weren't. The texture of the meat in my meal was rubbery. I had to chew on it for 3 or 4 minutes to be able to swallow it. I hate wasting food, but I had to give up trying to eat the main dish after three bites. They did not list one of the included sides so I accidentally ended up wasting money on another of the same. I saw them grab napkins & plastic cutlery as they were bagging my food, but didn't realize they had not actually put them into the bag. I was not in a hurry, but I did have to wait nearly 10 minutes past the pick up time for my to go order even though the restaurant was maybe 1/4 full.

The food is pricey but worth it because of the great taste of the food and proportions as well. I highly recommend trying the food here.

Ordered on ubereats and WOW. Best abula in Atlanta. Tastes exactly like olaoluwa kitchen in ikeja lagos which is my favorite abula spot so far. This is my 1st time trying this place and I'll be back.

This is the worst Afan soup I've ever had.
Scent leaf in the soup?
I had to eat the assorted meat inside not to waste the entire meal. You must not offer all soups, choose what leaf is available please.
It was TASTELESS & BITTER!!!

I spent $56 on two plates, and one of them only came with three tiny pieces of beef....seriously? We wanted to try something new, but that turned out to be a big mistake. Everything, even the rice, was overwhelmingly spicy with no real flavor. Definitely not kid-friendly, and honestly not worth the money.

Food was more than an hour late and was disappointed. Got served after people that came after me. Surely won’t comeback there.

I’ve been coming to this location for a long time. But sadly now the food has become way too overpriced. Other restaurants, in the area, offer better prices for the same items. Either increase the portion size or reduce the price but overall food itself is 7/10

I visited this cozy little restaurant and really enjoyed the warm atmosphere. The assorted pepper soup and beans with fried plantain were both delicious and well-prepared. However, the service was a bit clumsy, as only one person was serving all the customers, which made things a bit slow and disorganized. The owner came out to assist at some point, and she was very pleasant and welcoming. That said, they definitely need more hands on deck to improve efficiency and service flow. With better staffing, this place could really shine.
