Was referred to this place by a local, and so glad they did! The barbecue fondue is amazing!!! Tender pulled pork, in a tasty cheese sauce with fresh tomato dices in it. Dipping items were fresh cut potato chips and freshly made pork rinds. Very original, and well worth ordering it! You won't be disappointed. My husband and friend that were in the party also had the mini corn dogs, which they both raved about.

My husband and I shared a 1 meat meal with 2 sides. The turkey was the best I have ever had, it was perfectly seasoned, and not dry at all. I used their sweet barbecue sauce that was well seasoned and accompanied the turkey meat very nicely. The baked beans were delicious, and the best I've eaten at a barbecue restaurant. Same for the banana pudding, it had more than just the normal ingredients in it and had a fantastic flavor.

Shiloh was our waitress and did an amazing job of keeping our drinks topped off. She also made sure there was nothing with anchovies in any of the foods before I ordered (only a few items do, and they are so helpful with that).

This is a hidden gem of a place in Ellijay. If traveling through the area, this is a must stop at place!

They make their own sauces and use fresh ingredients, too.

Well done!!!

I only have good things to say about the great time and food we shared at Col. Poole's establishment. The BBQ sauces are made in-house. They obviously took the time to develop sauces and flavors that complement meat, not overwhelm bad meats. We tried the pulled pork and turkey slices, both of which were moist and powerful in their own right. The fondue appetizer was fantastic and will change some of the things we serve when friends come over. The baked beans, banana pudding, and wings were equally well-prepped and so tasty that each could be a stand-alone food. Very sorry they don't have Diet Coke, but the Sugar Waters come in all the other Coke and Dr. Pepper flavors. If you are in the area and want food outside the corporate sugar loaded chemical patties, then make your stop this mom and pop roadside wonder.

I started coming here in the 90s. The last time before today was maybe 2010 ish. The main reason I love this place and my mom (who only went once before today) was the unique and delicious Cole slaw. Pooles was always consistent and wonderful. Well what happened? The Cole slaw tasted like a vinegar bonanza; Way too much celery seed. It was just such a disappointment. I’m going to hope it was a bad batch from maybe a new cook, or something, and give it another go in the spring when I come back down. Also, a little heavy on the salt pretty much all the way around. It makes me sad to think maybe Pooles BBQ is no more. I’ll try again in April.

Been here several times before no problem. This time big problem! Waited and ignored to be seated. Lady had to come from kitchen to seat us. The people behind us got drinks and food before us and the people that were seated in front of us. We had dirty silverware. They finally gave us our food. Never came back to check on us not once!! A young boy server seen I was out of drink (my husband had been out) ask if we wanted a refill. We where done by this time. 10mins later was for our check from him. Then when trying to pay cash for a$29 and change bill out of $40. They did not have change!!! How so they call them aelfa a restaurant. We will not be back period.

I’ve been all over North GA trying local BBQ, and I've even tried Kansas City BBQ. Pooles knows what they’re doing and is the best. The ribs are to die for and paired perfectly (in my opinion) with their sweet sauce but honestly are fantastic without extra sauce. After numerous visits, I can confidently say that everything on the menu is phenomenal, especially the Philly which uses the authentic sandwich bread and cheese used in Philly. Best in all of GEORGIA hands down. Shoutout the new management for keeping this Ellijay icon open 🫶🏼

First time visitors and the food was awesome!! We now have a BBQ joint we will come to again!
The food was great, pricing was good and the atmosphere was fun.
My only complaint is you might want to hold onto your plate!
We came just before church let out and once that happened, there was a line at the door. The servers ended up in the weeds of trying to get reset for the next group.
Our server brought our check and grabbed my plate without asking if I was finished. I was taken back, but understood that I should have spoke up. It wasnt worth saying anything as we were being rushed out the door by another server needing the table.
Great to see the place stays busy, but would have appreciated getting to have my last handful of bites before hitting the road.
We will be returning no doubt, just don't let your plate go withput a fight 😉

Passed through this little Georgia town recently and stopped for some BBQ…. Not sure how they stay in business. Also heard the same people own a pizza place in this town. Not even gonna chance it. People need to take pride in their business and how it is perceived by visitors and locals.

Candace and all the staff--amazing!! We show up for a meal as we are passing thru the area. The internet shows they close at 7... it was 6 and they were closing (the internet is wrong...shocking I know) They were so kind and let us in. We ordered and ate, so we could quickly get out of the closing restaurant. They didn't rush us at all! We will definitely go back when we pass thru again!

so… where do i start? the good: the food was edible. the banana pudding was good. the service was alright.
the bad: the roach in the bathroom. there was a hair in a plate of food. the eye roll received when we mentioned it and asked for the food to be remade. none of the kitchen staff were wearing hair/beard nets. the ribs had as much meat on them as the middle of a chicken wing flat.
tl;dr: the roach and i decided to call the health department.
