I always recommend Pooles Bar B Que, for the food and service. My guests enjoy as well. You cannot find better brisket especially. If you dine in, most likely have to get to go boxes, because portion’s are generous. Last month I came as they closing and the employees let me order to go. Well I left my debit card in the card reader but did not know until my next stop. I was upset because I wasn’t 💯 percent sure where my card was. I called and left a message and the next morning decided to go by because I was on my way out of town. I didn’t receive a call back and no one was coming to the door because they had not opened yet. So after waiting decided to go around the back to see if anyone might be there, and they were just loading or unloading and didn’t hear me knocking. Anyway they had my card and told me I didn’t have any worries because all the staff were honest and glad they could help me, I was embarrassed about being so careless. So there are so many reasons this special restaurant in Ellijay is one of my favorite places to get a really great meal. I’ve feel like if you weren’t happy with something you ordered they will accommodate you. Try it for yourself, take someone with you!! 🤩😋

In town for a softball tournament and wanted to try something local. This was the place for local and family friendly. They had no issues with my service dog and welcomed us back anytime with it. Definitely a place to stop into if nearby.

We’ve been coming up here annually since shortly after Covid and we always make sure to stop here for some absolutely amazing BBQ. This year our server was Shiloh and the service was absolutely amazing and so courteous! We had something we hadn’t seen on the menu before for a starter called the BBQ Fondue and trust me, if you think you may be interested in it, it is AMAZINGLY TASTY! We also got so much excited to eat that we completely forgot until halfway through our food that we should take pics of the main courses too XD so instead here’s a halfway eaten meal with last year’s pic of the full meal XD

We was in town from florida and hungry but didn’t know what we wanted, I saw the pigs on the hill and then the restaurant so I whipped a u’y. All 9 of us enjoyed our food, my son had the rabbit leg which was 10/10. I visited twice in our 4 day trip for lunch, and bought our pig on the hill 😛. Thank you guys.

I’ve eaten here before and it was OK. I just stopped by cause I was in the area and got here at about 2:45pm . I understand they close at 3 but I think it’s pretty rude that the employees keep walking right by me like I’m invisible and don’t tell me that they can’t take any more orders. I would’ve been fine with that
Food was excellent and at a great price. All waiters/waitresses were welcoming and attentive. I loved the atmosphere and the pig hill of fame. I recommend the Pulled Pork Sandwich, BBQ Beans, and the Mac & Cheese. Great spot!

We have been to Poole's BBQ twice - in August 2023 and November 2024.
Our visit in 2023 was great. We got a sampler platter to try a bit of everything, and we weren't disappointed with anything.
Our visit in 2024 was a bit lacking...edible, but overall disappointing for the price. The brisket sandwich was very fatty. Also, I believe they changed the Mac and cheese recipe - on our first visit in 2023 we had cellantani type (swirly) noodles in a nice velveeta-like creamy sauce and it was delicious. On our visit in 2024 we got shell noodles that were stuck together, dry, and chewy, with a white sauce that separated - probably the worst Mac and cheese I've ever had.
The place does have a fun atmosphere, and we had good service, but based on our experience, the food is nothing consistent.
Kid-friendliness: They have a basic kids menu. Entrees are grilled cheese, chicken nuggets, or pulled pork with one side (fries, mac and cheese, or Texas toast). They do have crayons and color sheets, you just have to ask for them.

As an unapologetic bbq snob, I entered this joint with a little bit of hesitation, not really expecting much. The "hill of fame", the Chevy Vega in the front, all the hype....will all this be a cover-up for some mediocre food? Nope. Absolutely not. The pork was very....VERY...good. The sides were on the same level (cole slaw was a little pedestrian, but, hey, what can you do with cole slaw?). I was a little confused about the sauce offerings, but they were still great. The atmosphere just added to the experience. The downside of this place is that it is a little difficult to find, but if you find yourself wandering in the area, it would be well worth a visit. Easily one of the top ten in the state, maybe top five.
