Sombreros Mexican Cantina

We had initially gone to a restaurant around the corner, the atmosphere was bad. So we came to Sombreros, and I'm so glad we did. I was glad to see outside seating, nice atmosphere inside, large TVs at the bar, plenty of tables for seating. Just moments after taking our seat in a nice cozy Booth , our server greeted us, took our drink order, and before she walked away we had chips and salsa on the table. We were off to a great start. My chunky guacamole was made to order and specific, to my liking. The food was hot, and flavorful. Sombreros has been added to the list of place to bring friends.

Raquel was a great server. The tacos were so delicious I ordered a lobster taco to go.

Being bred, born & raised in Texas, I know Tex-Mex, via San Antonio. I was disheartened by Sombreros. Menu was extensive, the Texas margarita (with a Tajin rim) was very good. But my combo plate did not measure up to Tex-Mex. Where were the charro beans or the borracho beans? Not offered...only black or refried. Allegedly, they didn't have on the menu because "a lot of people don't eat pork"...well! But they serve carnitas. And you don't have to season with pork. The proper seasonings/herbs and either chicken or beef broth will produce a full-flavored pot of beans. Undoctored canned black beans were flat, dry & insulting to the culturally & gastronomically aware. The tamale was heavy, neither savory nor moist and the "chili' sauce was not authentic. To add injury to insult to, a chicken "taco" encased in a flour tortilla was uninspiring. At least, the music was authentic. The staff was responsive & friendly but I was so disappointed and doubt I will return.

While not quite a 'hole in the wall', it comes close. Server was prompt & friendly. The Fajita Bowl was tasty & large enough for 2 meals ($12) and the tea was sweet. Only 'complaint' would be the cheap plastic fork & knife (aka low-end take-out quality) but would visit again.

They gave me FOOD POISONING... yesterday after work i went in to eat and how i know it was their food is because i didn't eat anything else that day i mean NOTHING else .... now when i first arrived I wasn't sure if I wanted to eat because I stood there for almost 20 mins and no one had acknowledged me .... now i came before and ate and enjoyed it but something there for me sick being honest wish i would have just left when i felt like i waited way to long to get service but i was starving and didn't want to get up and leave I really hope they fix this problem cross contamination isn't good something went wrong with my food.

Found this great place on a Google search by our hotel. Jesus our bartender was great and the food incredible. Great prices. Wish we had one at home.

Ok after revisiting this place 2 years later I have to edit this review and say…I would not bring your favorites here. Stale chips, stale tortillas, beans and rice had that canned taste…I wouldn’t even bring my enemy here…At least the bartender was polite…but yall need to actually spend a little more time on your food instead of whatever you’re doing…I knew when the enchiladas came out in less than 5 minutes it would be a problem…

Been here for lunch a few times. The lunch #8 is amazing!

I've been here twice now and enjoyed both visits. The food and the service has been good each time.

This place is 30 mins from my house, totally worth the drive and I will definately go back.
