No parking had to use pay parking (10.00) and walk to restaurant was disappointed with food had knockwurst sausage that was full of sodium tasted like cheep stuff from grocery store had same meal 2 year’s ago here ago that was great this time meal was about 3/4 the size of previous time will not go back
This restaurant is hard to find at night. Many of the restaurants in Helen do not have the restaurant names well illuminated (especially when the town is hemorrhaging Christmas lights), but we found it tucked among other restaurants and shops in Helen on the Main Street. We found free parking down in back and didn't have to pay the 10$ parking fees at public lots. I grew up with home made German food and this restaurant was one of the best I've found around the South for authentic Germanic food. The red cabbage, spatzle and potato salad sides.....outstanding, as were the main entrees. It seem that the locals were coming in for the Gulasch which was superb. Sauerbraten and Fussener Kaseschnitzel were also perfecto! Average entree prices are about 20$, but food was abundant. The only downside was what sounded like German New Age Rock which was a bit loud. One track played a song where air raid sirens were going off, which I felt a bit unnerved by.....but the food was worth the noise of the music.
Food and beer was tasty as if in Germany. Service was top notch. Perfect viewing location for the Christmas parade. Sit outside on the balcony to eat.
You can look at my other reviews and see that I have visited quite a few German and Austrian restaurants throughout the world. While this was not the best one I have eaten at, it was still very good. It was definitely the best we had in Helen. The wursts were very good. The most pleasant surprise was the the french fries were outstanding. Fries in Germany are typically better than in the U.S., but these fries would stand up well against any restaurant, anywhere. The service was very good and the food was a fair deal for the price. The only negative was that the apple strudel was just average. We came at around 11:00 a.m., so there was no wait despite it being a busy weekend. The atmosphere was good and reminded me a lot of a brauhaus that I went to in Rheinbach, Germany. The Heidelberg is at the top of my list for our next trip to Helen.
Gluhwein was excellent!! Food was good and server on the first night was friendly and good. We decided to go back a second night and what a mistake! Granted, it was busy but we were seated quickly and our orders were taken quickly. So far so good, right? Wrong! After waiting 40 minutes for our food, the server comes out and says sorry, but the kitchen just told us that the printer wasn’t working in the kitchen so they weren’t getting orders and they were working on ours now. How could they not know they were not getting orders?? After waiting another 20+ minutes the food came out and it was just ok but definitely not worth the wait. Very disappointing!
Great authentic German food! Clean and well lit.

Ordered sauerbraten and allgauer zwiebelbratwurst. Service was good. Food was average. Not a lot of atmosphere/ambiance.
Food was amazing. Definitely coming back.
Very busy during Octoberfest so Didn't try the food. Maybe next time. Beer was overpriced even though we bought the commerative glass refills.

The sausage (beef/pork) was a bit too salty for my taste. Considering the portion size (three sausages with mashed potatoes), the $20 price felt somewhat high.

When visiting Helen, I wanted to experience Germany even in the food. The Heidelberg did not disappoint! My food was pleasantly different and I have no complaints. Thank you for the German experience! Also, it’s beautiful on the outside and thought it was cool the restaurant was upstairs.
Great Rueben and large pretzel, the white cheese dip is excellent, the sandwich was delicious too, the atmosphere very enjoyable
