My family went here as a family of 5. We read the reviews so we thought this would be a pretty good place for Sushi. We ordered various rolls a hibachi plate sake and various drinks. I would say the rolls were mediocre. My mother ordered the Tuna roll it was disgusting. I've had LOTS of sushi in my life and this particular roll was ick. The tuna was slimy and pretty off putting. We also ordered the vegetable tempura which the mushrooms were pretty greasy. I bit into it and was grease laden. The most appealing looking and tasting dish was the hibachi plate. Very nice portions and was good. Outstanding no but good. My father ordered an unsweetened tea. It literally tasted like water. You could see straight through with no flavor. I know it was unsweetened but it shouldn't have been virtually clear. The young man that assisted us was the friendliest in the beginning. He finally warmed up after some prodding and us trying to make him as happy as possible. My father is 92 and I didn't want to cause a disturbance. If I was there by myself I would have asked for my money back and not finished my meal. Don't know if it was an off day. We spent over $100 which was fine but I just wish the food had been better.

Here’s my experience-I’ve been going to this restaurant on average twice a week with a co worker. Most days I order the lunch special as well as sushi. On average I spend 25-30 dollars per lunch. My co worker also averages about the same. After a year or so of weekly visits I was in a rush and decided to order take out. Keep in mind, they know me well enough here that they don’t have to even ask for my order any longer. So I place an order for 3 spicy tuna rolls and a side of chicken. The guy working the front tells me it’s $33 and some change. Keep in mind the 3 sushi rolls on the lunch special is $14.50. He tries to charge me over $20 for the 3 rolls then tells me I need to let him know it’s the lunch special. Dude works there and doesn’t know that??? Okay we get that cleared up. Second issue, I pay for everything and get ready to walk out and ask for a Yum Yum sauce for my side order of chicken. Oh it’s doesn’t come with it, you need to pay more. So already feeling as if he was trying to rip me off on the 3 sushi rolls, then wants to charge whatever it was for the sauce. I smiled said no thanks! You lost a customer X’s 2 that will never come back. It’s not about the 25 cents for the sauce or whatever it cost it’s about the principle of it all and future business.

This place is amazing. Date night was amazing. Food was delicious and absolutely perfect. Crab Rangoon was delicious. Will definitely return! And Sammy is the sweetest!

Sushi is really good. Been there twice and both times they didn't have many customers. Drinks are strong and we'll made.

We’ve really come to love Sumo! They have a pretty expansive menu. Atmosphere is a lot nicer than some other similar establishments in Macon. Service is always fantastic - we’ve had the same server each time and she is so attentive and kind and very responsive whenever we ask for anything. Everything we have tried off the menu is good, we have only done all you can eat once but it was worthwhile and portions were great. We usually just order right off the menu. So far, the Hibachi Chicken and the Fantastic Roll have been our favorites. They give you a lot of yum yum sauce! Definitely go here. Prices are good too and overall the staff are so friendly and kind. Our go to sushi and hibachi place!

Service staff is great, especially mid day when it's slow. But the sushi is the best quality I've had in Macon by far! We've returned often since they've opened.

This restaurant is very lovely, with a good variety of sushi and hibachi items you'd expect from a place like this. The staff are very friendly and the music is always the best.

Vegetarian options: There are veggie sushi options, as well as various salads

Dietary restrictions: Many of the items are gluten free, dairy free, and sulfite free.

Parking: Parking is located directly in front of the restaurant

Kid-friendliness: There are booster chairs, chicken fingers, and lots of rice options for picky kids.

Does not have hibachi grill seating anymore. Do not come to this location if you are looking for that experience. Exterior and interior design is W I L D and not in a good way. I had the hibachi chicken fried rice and it was average. Nothing to complain about but nothing amazing either. Overall average experience for the geographical location.

Im so sorry to have to leave this review. I love sushi. I usually get mine from Osaka on Mercer University.
But as it pertains to trying a new place - the selection here at Sumo seemed limited. (I love the “Cold Roll” from Osaka. They even call me “The cold roll guy”) I got a cucumber roll from Sumo and it actually had bones in it. I didn’t even think eel had bones like that. It’s a good thing that I chew my food.
The cashier didn’t seem too excited that I ordered to-go but I am terribly disappointed.
