Quaint sandwich shop in the quaint little town of Rutledge, GA. Sandwiches were quite good. If you arrive close to closing time (3 pm) they are likely to be out of some items. No fountain drinks - choose from a selection in the cooler; Pibb, Sprite, apple juice were our choices when we arrived about 2:45. They were out of fries, so I chose the pasta salad as the side for my Reuben, but I didn't know I was supposed to get the salad out of the fridge (& wasn't advised as such at the counter.) I had forgotten about it by the time me sandwich arrived (quickly enough, I simply forgot the side was included) so I can't speak to the quality of the pasta salad. Both sandwiches were quite good.
The place was clean, friendly, and the staff so kind. The food was amazing as well. If I am passing through in the mornings I will make sure to hit the Caboose up again.

A hidden treasure in Rutledge but one of the best places to eat in the state. And they have one hell of a Reuben.

The staff was so bubbly, helpful, and polite. We got there 30 minutes before close and they treated us like they just opened!! The sandwiches were fantastic, I had the Cuban, so much meat!! My girl had the Philly. They serve Zapp's "VooDoo" chips, so I'm sold!!
It was quiet when we came, but the train caboose esthetic and ample seating make this place a hopping spot with live music and Friday Low Country Boil, it's worth the drive. We will be back
Parking: There's a few places at the caboose and an open parking lot less than 50 yards away

This should really count as 30 individual reviews. We were in rutledge, Georgia had a training class with a local business. The Caboose catered lunch to us. And several things really stood out.
First off, the quantity of food was amazing. I know that our host probably told the restaurant how many people were going to be there. But we are all in the construction industry, with healthy appetite. And they brought enough food for all of us plus many of us who took home leftovers for our dinner.
The menu was roast pork loin, tender and delicious with plenty of au jus, chicken fingers, lightly fried, Redskin mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, thick with a nice baked cheese crust, squash casserole that you could actually taste the squash and it wasn't too runny, and fresh green beans with balsamic vinegar. Did I mention the peach cobbler for dessert?
I am a chef and have catered dozens of times. And I know how difficult it can be to get the quality and the quantities right. The caboose did it, and did it in spades. Thank you so much!

This place has significantly gone downhill. Walked in and immediately noticed the smell. Flies everywhere. No air conditioning. Went to the caboose side for ice cream came for the root beer float. Was told they no longer made root beer and I pointed out that it was still on the menu. She just shrugged and said they haven’t had root beer since she started working there. Which apparently hasn’t been long because I ordered a cone and was told they were out of cones so I opted for a milkshake which she made and put in keeps while telling me as she poured it into the cups that they were out of lids. The milkshake was 99% milk. I mean it was so thin that the little bit of icecream was floating to the top. Extremely disappointing to see such a wonderful childhood memory at caboose be treated the way it is now and turned into the disaster it has become. This place needs a full revamp or to just shut down for good.

So...the people were nice, the atmosphere was nice but I'm never ok with an animal or pet walking around a restaurant, food, or food preparation areas. So I did not eat the food.

If you like the smell of years worth of bury gear and an attitude, this is your place. Arts there today and it was horrible. Caboose section where you order food was stifling hot and the other part of the restaurant was dark. I'm unsure if she is the owner but she is an older lady with gray hair pulled back in a bin with a FILTHY apron on. We sat outside due to the heat inside. The "owner" finally brought our food out. I asked for some ketchup and she said rudely, "She should've already put some on your burger." My temperature was rising and my guest could see my expression and asked that she bring a bottle of ketchup. She walked off with an obvious attitude and brought out the ketchup. My partner only eat half of his decrepit Cuban and went in for a to go box. She snapped at him and said, "We don't have to go boxes. I can give you some tin foil or something." Just to get out of there he took the tin foil and we left. WE WILL NOT BE BACK!
