Had their house oysters and fresh catch (speckled trout)...both were awesome.
Good service too.

On the busiest of weekends we had prompt, friendly, efficient service for our party of ten. I cannot say enough about our sweet server Cassie or the delicious food. Whether you’re there for the insanity of Georgia/Florida or for a chill family getaway, go see them. You won’t regret it.

Delicious food! Every item we got was outstanding. We ordered shrimp and grits, fried shrimp plate, steamed oysters & calamari + 2 cocktails. Ally, our server, was very attentive and friendly. She made the dining experience great. Would definitely return next time I’m in town.

Was in town for a few days and had dinner here and it was amazing. The bartender was phenomenal and had maybe the best oysters I've ever had. The cajun oysters... fantastic.

My wife and I tried this place for the first time and all of the reviews are correct -- this place is fantastic! Our appetizer was the shrimp ceviche which was just flat out amazing. I had the catch of the day which was the flounder. It was served blackened over melted butter and rice with steamed vegetables on the side. The bacon wrapped green beans were dangerously good. Sweet, salty, earthy and grilled perfectly. My wife had the BBQ shrimp and grits but she substituted the shrimp for chicken because she doesn't like shrimp. That dish was still perfect. The BBQ sauce was smoky with a touch of vinegar. For dessert we had what everyone recommended -- the butter cake. I am not a dessert person but this was delightful! Their mixed drinks were big and full of alcohol. Highly recommend this place for a date night or with adult friends. Probably not recommended for families.

The Half Shell is a wonderful little restaurant in St.Simons Island. They have both inside and outside seating. It was great to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. We started our meal with the Bloody Mary. I can't say it was the best one I've had. it looked wonderful and came with okra and a shrimp. It lacked that wonderful spicy taste you expect with a Bloody Mary, and had too much old bay on the rim. There were no olives or celery in the drink, but, they gave the olives to me when requested. After drinks we had oysters in the half shell, can't really go wrong there. Then we wrapped up with lunch. I had the blue crab cakes and two sides. They have a nice selection of sides, really something for everyone. The portions were large! The blue crab cakes again were mild but not real flavorful. The size of the crab cakes were large, but, I felt there was a lot of filling or breading in them. The mixed vegetables had entirely too many onions. The fries were perfect. The open face tuna tacos were delicious, perfect size and flavorful. prices were moderate. Overall, I would go back and try something different, as the atmosphere was great and service was great!
