The Joe Gransden Big Band plays 1st and 3rd Monday nights from about 8:45 --10:00 pm. Greatest big band in the country.

great music and food

Sure, the live music is cool. The sound system is rudimentary and the acoustics are terrible, so they make up for it by just blasting your face with sound. The food is extremely mediocre. The fries look (and taste) exactly like they bought bags of frozen crinkle fries at Kroger and cooked them. The pasta had a nice amount of broccoli but was very bland. The service is okay, unless they're busy in which case you will be forced to go hunting for your waitress. You can probably find her hanging out chatting behind the bar. The location looks like a perfect place to get your car jacked while you're being deafened by a brass band in a tiny enclosed space and couldn't hear if a plane crashed in the parking lot, much less your car alarm going off. I do not recommend using the restrooms unless you enjoy feeling unsafe on the toilet. 2/10.

We celebrated my brothers 50th birthday and from the time of arrival until we left, every single thing was absolutely amazing. Great staff, excellent food and top notch customer service.

Café 290 is the best $15.00 jazz. R&B and big band concert experience in all of Georgia. It’s a worth going to over and over again. Set back off Roswell Road in Sandy Springs prepare to have the experience of live music, interaction with a phenomenal singer and their band. The food is great food and and the drinks are wonderfully made thanks to the endless hospitality of “Mo” Maurice the legendary bartender. Check your tab, and you will find you paid for 1/3 what you’d pay downtown Atlanta or midtown in Buckhead. The decor is very old school and could be upgraded but what you get for the value, exceeds expectations. A great place to celebrate birthdays and to bring you boo out on a date. It’s never disappointing. If you are anywhere near Sandy Springs and love jazz and Classic R&B “Big Band” legends you want to stop by and see enjoy the 290 Experience. It’s been one of my favorites now since I moved to Atlanta. I’m sure it’s soon to be one of yours too!

Fun evening with some great music, but the food is overpriced and of low quality; the surroundings are run down and dingy...for Atlanta's oldest / premier jazz club, the place is pitiful.

I had never gone to this Cafe before, being new to ATL but I went by myself and had a good time, however, I ordered a meal and the meal took the whole show before it came, that was a little disappointing. Other than that, I enjoyed the show and ate a little late.

I went there for the first time to meet a friend. I arrived at 8:15pm and was charged a $15 cover as there was going to be a band performing however I was not even sure that I was going to stay for the band as I was grabbing a bite to eat and meeting my friend. I attempted to explain to the hostess at the door that I may not be staying but she insisted on collecting the $25 payment. I made the payment and asked where I was allowed to sit. The hostess proceeded to tell me that all of the empty tables were reserved and the only seating was at the bar. I asked her why should I pay when I would be far from the performance as once more people come there would only be standing room only. She continued to tell me that everyone is required to pay the cover. I sat on one of the 3 stools left at the corner of the bar near the front door. From where I was sitting I could feel the cold breeze every time someone opened the door. I ordered the catfish nuggets (I believe) with fries and an Amaretto Sour. The food was salty but my drink was good. As I waited for my friend I called Chef Rob's and decided to take care of the check and head to chef Rob's. I spoke to one of the ladies at the bar who may have been a manager and explained to her that I was leaving and wanted clarity on why I paid for my meal and the seating to have my dinner so essentially paying twice for the meal. She told me that if I was leaving she would make sure that I get my $15 cover charge back. I kindly collected my money and left there happy. I was so disgusted that I decided to wait for my friend outside and once my friend arrived we went to Chef Rob's. A couple also left after being told that the place was standing room only but still needed to pay the cover overheard me talking to my friend decided to follow us to chef Rob's. I will never go back and would not recommend it.
