Came here years ago on a Friday afternoon but it was closed. Sad. But I came back again years later, determined to try a hidden jewel. The location is outside the city and you would need to drive from the city center. The cafe is to the right of the church, with a glass door that's in-between the restaurant and church building. I had heard the fried chicken was excellent and was aiming for that. Sadly, the restaurant ran out so I went for plan B: braised oxtails. The oxtails were fantastic: full of savory flavor swimming in a really nice gravy that wasn't too thick. Putting it on top of my red rice made for wonderful comfort food. The red rice, which wasn't mushy at all, had a bit of tartness and there was a fairly substantial tomato flavor to it. The other sides were more pedestrian. The braised cabbage was rather bland and lacked any personality. I only ate it because I needed to feel better for myself that I ate some vegetables. The mac n' cheese wasn't creamy but it was passable. The mac was more like a casserole. Service was friendly throughout and professional. It's a church cafeteria that's actually worth going out for.

Every bite was so good. This is in a basement of a church. Church ladies cooking just like you imagine. Perfect is all I can say. if

Staff were friendly. Food varied in quality. The rutabagas had an odd flavor like sugar or a spice in them that I didn't like. Pork chop was good. Okra and tomatoes were more tomatoes and mixed vegetables. I'd go again, but I find the flavors at Sisters of the New South better.

Had the oxtails, red rice, mac and cheese, cabbage, green beans and cornbread. Everything was very good. The ladies behind the counter were very sweet and welcoming. I will make sure I come back again next time I visit Savannah.

Awesome Southern comfort food served from the kitchen of a church. I am not sure of their hours but I drove all the way from Jacksonville just to find that they are closed on Wednesdays. Try to call ahead of you can.

What a feast of heart, soul and stomach! We went here based on reviews read online and what a gift. We had the fried chicken and staple sides. A full plate of food with two sides and corn bread. Delicious! Allow yourself time to eat because you don't want to waste a bite. I paced myself and was able to get the sweet potato pie right from the oven. I don't have proper language to describe how light and flavorful the food was. Get yourself here!!! The staff and other patrons make the experience enjoyable as if we had been their guests at home. The love and goodness here is a gift. Thank you!!!!

This is a pretty cool place. When you think of the south, you think of a church, check, and you also think of finger licking good down home country cooking, double check. The eatery is located inside a church. Definitely a cool experience, though I did feel like I had to watch my potty mouth and colorful storytelling. I was afraid we were going to be the only people there because the parking lot was empty, but there were other tourists inside. We went on a Monday, so they were open, they are not open on Tuesday and Wednesday, so check their schedule! The lady who served us is a sweet and warm middle aged woman. She wanted to serve me two huge pieces of thigh meat. She saw my reaction to what would be my impending heart attack and asked if she should switch it out for a smaller wing. I did not object. I kept pointing at different sides for her to scoop on to my tray. I got mac and cheese, red rice, lima beans, green beans, corn, and corn bread. I listed some of the sides which were my friend's for effect and volume. Both of our meals were $7 each. One of our cheapest meals in Savannah. Wish I could have tried some of their other sides or entrees. If I could go back, I would. The sweet and warm middle aged woman spoke to us as we were departing. She told us about Chippawea Park where Forest Gump was filmed. She was a nice welcome to the south!

Let the band play Chopin's Nocturne; my favorite. I had turkey wing, dressing, macaroni and cheese, green beans and cornbread. My Husband had meatloaf, sweet potatoes, dressing and a roll. The food here taste like home. The turkey was moist and seasoned to perfection. The mac and cheese was cheesy and moist. Plus when I stuck my fork in the cheese pulled. However, it wasn't overly cheesy. The dressing was flavorful and not dry. The green beans delicious. My husband said the food was great. In fact we couldn't eat all our meals and brought them home. I won't have to ask to go back my husband has already said we will be going back this coming Friday.
